Resolution criteria
- This market resolves to YES if the Government of Canada officially implements and begins enforcing new retaliatory tariffs on goods imported from the United States on or before September 15, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET.
- If Canada cancels, suspends, or postpones the implementation of these tariffs such that they do not take effect by the specified deadline, this market will resolve to NO.
- The primary sources of truth for resolving this market will be official announcements from the Government of Canada (such as the Department of Finance or the Canada Border Services Agency) and reporting from major credible news organizations (e.g., Reuters, AP News, or CBC News).
- Following the collapse of bilateral trade negotiations on August 21, 2026, the United States enacted 50% tariffs on approximately $20 billion of Canadian imports, which took effect on August 22, 2026.
- In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada would implement "dollar-for-dollar" retaliatory measures.
