On June 15, 2026, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the UK government’s intention to ban children under the age of 16 from accessing social media services.

Polymarket
  • This market will resolve to "Yes" if a ban on the use of social media by children under the age of 16 within the United Kingdom takes effect by the listed date, 11:59 PM ET.
  • Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
  • A ban will qualify when legislation or a mandate from Ofcom or another UK government regulator is effectively imposed on any group of social media platforms, requiring them to prevent children under the age of 16 from accessing their services, with regulatory penalties to be applied for noncompliance.
  • A qualifying ban must be in effect against a group of social media platforms, defined as consumer-facing online services whose primary function is to view, share, create, and interact with user-generated content.
  • An age restriction applying to online streaming (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, etc.) or pornographic (PornHub, OnlyFans, etc.) services will not qualify.
