Spacecoin is a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) that combines three unusual ingredients: low-earth-orbit nanosatellites, telecommunications, and a public blockchain. The long-term goal is an open protocol for internet connectivity that does not depend on terrestrial cell towers, fiber landing stations or any single operator's permission.
The project has satellites in orbit today, but the product most people can actually use is not satellite broadband. It is SpaceRouter, a decentralized residential proxy network where people share their home internet connection and are paid in SPACE for the bandwidth they serve.
SPACE is the network's coordination and payment token, an ERC-20 token issued on Creditcoin, used to stake as an operator, to pay for service through an on-chain escrow, and eventually to govern the protocol.
Official sources:
Spacecoin was founded in 2022 by Tae Oh, chief executive of Gluwa and founder of Creditcoin. The connection is not incidental: Oh's earlier work was lending infrastructure for people without bank accounts, and the project's stated origin is the observation that the unbanked are very often also unconnected. Stuart Gardner leads research, launches and partnerships, and Jim Cantrell, a founding team member of SpaceX and co-founder of Phantom Space, is a strategic advisor. SpaceRouter is operated by Space Labs Ltd.
The hardware milestones are documented and independently checkable. CTC-0, the first satellite, launched on December 21, 2024 aboard SpaceX's Bandwagon-2 rideshare mission; its purpose was to prove an end-to-end blockchain transaction from Earth to orbit and back, which the project completed on November 13, 2025. CTC-1, a group of three satellites, launched on November 28, 2025 aboard SpaceX's Transporter-15 mission to test intersatellite linking and signal handoff ahead of pilots in Africa and Southeast Asia. The SPACE token generation event took place on January 23, 2026.
The system is described in four layers. A product layer, where developers and partners interact with the network, which today means SpaceRouter. A network layer of blockchain-enabled small satellites in low earth orbit operating independently of terrestrial infrastructure. A verification layer that establishes trust in what the network claims. And an incentive layer, where SPACE aligns operators, users and growth.
The design goal for the network layer is an open constellation, in which any operator meeting the protocol's standards can add satellites without a review process, with staked SPACE acting as the trust and slashing mechanism instead of a gatekeeper.
Verification has two named mechanisms. Proof of Orbit confirms satellites are genuinely operating in space by combining third-party observation through the open-source SatNOGS network with transaction hashes published to Creditcoin. Proof of Location is a granted US patent (12335739 B2) covering location verification that does not rely solely on GPS, which is spoofable.
Payment runs through blockchain escrow rather than invoices. A user locks SPACE in a smart contract before requesting service, the operator delivers it and submits cryptographic proof, and the contract verifies the proof and releases payment. That makes micropayments and cross-border settlement practical without currency conversion.
The documentation defines four core utilities:
Token facts from the documentation: ticker SPACE, ERC-20 standard, issued on Creditcoin at 0x7ab7C6A935Ab2D1437398790C9C0660af62A80b9, with a fixed total of 21,000,000,000 SPACE and no additional issuance. Allocations are 46 percent to growth and rewards, 30 percent to foundation and operations, and 24 percent to team and contributors, with long vesting on most tranches and 9 percent for listings and market making unlocked at launch. CTC, Creditcoin's native token, is required for gas on every transaction.
A wrapped representation of SPACE exists on Ethereum, but staking works only on Creditcoin mainnet, so tokens withdrawn to Ethereum must be bridged back before they can be staked.
Compared with Starlink and other commercial constellations, Spacecoin is minuscule and is not attempting to compete on bandwidth. Its pitch is openness and censorship resistance rather than speed.
Compared with terrestrial DePIN networks such as Helium, the physical assets are in orbit and far more expensive to deploy, which caps how fast the network can grow but also makes the infrastructure much harder to seize or switch off. Among bandwidth-sharing networks, SpaceRouter's residential proxy product is the closest direct comparison, and today it is where nearly all real activity happens.
Operator honesty is enforced economically through staked SPACE that can be slashed. Satellite existence and operation are verified through independent SatNOGS observation and on-chain transaction records. Payments are secured by escrow contracts, and provider reliability is scored in fixed four-hour review windows before a node is approved to earn.
The chain-level security of SPACE is inherited from Creditcoin, not from Bitcoin or Ethereum, which is a smaller and less battle-tested base than many token holders assume.
Spacecoin is one of the few crypto projects that has put its own hardware in orbit and produced independently verifiable evidence of it. Whether or not the open constellation materializes, pairing third-party satellite observation with on-chain transmission records is a useful pattern for proving that physical infrastructure claims are real.
SPACE trades on centralized exchanges and on decentralized venues. Because the canonical token lives on Creditcoin, check which network an exchange uses for withdrawal, and bridge to Creditcoin if you intend to stake.
SPACE has been listed on venues including:
Pairs include SPACE/USDT, SPACE/USD and SPACE/KRW depending on the venue.
SPACE can be held on an exchange, which is custodial, or in an EVM self-custody wallet configured for the Creditcoin network, such as MetaMask or Credit Wallet. Hardware wallets work through a compatible interface, and staking is done through the official staking application, which requires SPACE on Creditcoin plus a small amount of CTC for gas.
Keep a little CTC in the wallet that broadcasts your transactions. Claims and withdrawals fail without gas, and this is the most common operational mistake providers make.
