Nine Chronicles is an open-source fantasy RPG that runs on its own blockchain network instead of company servers, and WNCG (Wrapped NCG) is the tradable ERC-20 version of its in-game currency, Nine Chronicles Gold (NCG). Each WNCG is backed 1:1 by NCG, which lets players move value between the game and Ethereum markets. It matters as one of the longest-running examples of a fully on-chain game, where every action and item is recorded on a public ledger and the game logic itself is open source.
The official documentation describes Nine Chronicles as "a fully open-sourced online RPG without servers, governed by its players, and supported by a complex economy driven by supply and demand." Every in-game item exists as an NFT, and the game includes adventure stages, PvP arena seasons, world boss raids, crafting and upgrading, and a player-run shop.
NCG is the main in-game currency. It is not traded directly on exchanges: players buy WNCG and convert it into NCG through the Nine Chronicles Portal, or bridge NCG out to Ethereum as WNCG.

The game runs on Libplanet, a C#/.NET library built by Planetarium for decentralized multiplayer games. Gameplay happens on a peer-to-peer network of equal nodes, with digital signatures, BFT consensus and data replication handled under the hood. Game logic is written in C# and runs directly on the chain, without separate smart contracts.
