ORA is the token of the ORA ecosystem, a project that set out to bring verifiable AI computation onchain. Its best-known products are opML (optimistic machine learning) and OAO, an onchain AI oracle that lets smart contracts request AI model inference and receive results that can be challenged if wrong. The ORA token (issued by the ORA Foundation) is used for ecosystem liquidity rewards, access to AI model funding rounds, governance and a "World Gas" feature, and it exists on several chains at once.
ORA describes itself in its developer materials as a protocol that "connects AI and crypto". The core problem it tackles is that blockchains cannot run large AI models themselves: the computation is far too heavy for a virtual machine where every node repeats every step. ORA's answer is to run inference offchain and use an optimistic, fraud-proof style system to make the result trustworthy enough for a contract to act on.
The token, $ORA, was unveiled by the ORA Foundation and, according to the ORA documentation, launched through a "Decentralized AI Community Offering", a model the docs say was inspired by Vitalik Buterin's DAICO idea (a mix of DAO governance and open token sales).
The project's public face has changed over time. As of September 2026 the address www.ora.io serves a product called "ORA, Optimized Return Agents", described as agent-managed funds across prediction markets and trading venues, and the project's GitHub organization now uses that same name. The older AI oracle documentation site was not reachable when this page was prepared. Readers should check the official channels for the current product focus.
ORA's open-source code history points to an earlier identity: the opML and OAO repositories reference a GitHub organization named "hyperoracle", which suggests (as an inference from the code links) that the project previously operated as Hyper Oracle before becoming ORA. The token is issued under the ORA Foundation, which runs its own site at foundation.ora.io and the X account @FoundationORA.
The individual founders are not named in the ORA materials reviewed for this page. ORA has co-authored several Ethereum standards proposals, including ERC-7007 (verifiable AI-generated content using zkML and opML) and ERC-7641 (an "intrinsic revenue-share" token), and it has published research on zkML, opML and "opp/ai" (optimistic privacy-preserving AI).
The technical core is opML. According to the opML repository, it "enables off-chain AI model inference using optimistic approach with an on chain interactive dispute engine implementing fault proofs". In plain terms:
A smart contract asks for an AI result The contract calls the OAO contract, which emits an event describing the request.
An opML node runs the model offchain The node performs inference (the repository shows examples ranging from a small MNIST digit model to LLaMA) and posts the result onchain.
A challenge window opens Validators, or anyone, can check the result. If it is wrong, they can dispute it through an interactive game that narrows the disagreement down to a single step, which is then verified onchain by a Merkleized MIPS processor.
The result finalizes and is delivered After the challenge period the answer can no longer be changed, and OAO sends it to the requesting contract through a callback.
This is the same "optimistic" logic used by optimistic rollups: results are assumed correct unless someone proves otherwise. The opML repository notes that parts of its code are borrowed from Optimism's Cannon fault-proof system and that the code is unaudited.
The ORA documentation lists these roles for $ORA:
Fixed tokenomics facts from the ORA documentation: total supply is 333,333,333 ORA. Emissions follow a formula the docs write as W = L + αU. On EVM networks and Solana, $ORA is an OFT token built on LayerZero's OFT standard, so it can be bridged between those chains (the docs mention ORA's own bridge and Stargate). Bridging to and from Hyperliquid was not supported at the time the docs were written.
Most AI-crypto projects either sell compute or build agents. ORA's distinguishing work was on verifiability: making it possible for a smart contract to use an AI model's output without blindly trusting whoever ran it. Its opML approach trades the heavy cost of zero-knowledge proofs for a challenge period, which makes large models practical onchain at the price of delayed finality. Its co-authorship of ERC-7007 and ERC-7641 also gives it a footprint in Ethereum standards work that few token projects have.
ORA is not a blockchain of its own; it is a protocol and token deployed across existing chains.
Security depends on the layer. The ORA token contracts inherit the security of each host chain (Ethereum, Base, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Solana, Hyperliquid and others) plus the LayerZero OFT messaging used to move tokens between chains. AI results from OAO are secured by opML's fraud-proof game, which assumes at least one honest party watches and challenges bad results within the window. The opML repository itself states the code is unaudited and warns against using it to secure funds until more testing and auditing are done.
If AI agents and AI-driven contracts are going to control real funds, someone has to answer the question "how do we know the model actually said that?". ORA was one of the earlier teams to ship a working answer onchain, and its standards work (ERC-7007, ERC-7641) outlives any single product. Whether the token keeps that relevance depends on how its current funds and agent products use it.
The ORA documentation lists onchain markets for $ORA: a Uniswap v3 pool on Ethereum mainnet, a Uniswap v3 pool on Base, a Raydium pool on Solana, a PancakeSwap pool on BNB Chain, and a market on Hyperliquid. Always confirm the token contract before trading:
ORA may also trade on centralized exchanges, but specific listings were not verified for this page. Check the exchange's own asset page and deposit network before sending tokens.
Because ORA exists on several networks, use a wallet that supports the chain you bought on: an EVM wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby for Ethereum, Base, BNB Chain and Arbitrum, or a Solana wallet such as Phantom for the Solana version. Hardware wallets that support these chains add protection for larger holdings. You can check balances on Etherscan, BaseScan or Solscan. Official links: ORA, ORA Foundation, GitHub.
