Enso is developer infrastructure that turns a stated outcome, such as "put this token into that vault," into ready-to-sign transaction data. Instead of integrating each lending market, decentralized exchange and vault by hand, a developer sends one request to Enso's API and receives calldata that a user's wallet can sign. Enso's own documentation puts it plainly: the product exists to "turn DeFi product intent into signer-ready transaction data" while the calling application keeps custody and control.
ENSO is the network's token, documented as the asset used to pay for network operations, to stake for participation rights and to govern protocol parameters. In practice it trades as an ERC-20 on Ethereum at 0x699F088b5DddcAFB7c4824db5B10B57B37cB0C66 and on BNB Chain at 0xfeb339236d25d3e415f280189bc7c2fbab6ae9ef, both addresses published by Enso.

Enso was founded by Connor Howe, who began the project as Enso Finance in 2021 with backing from Polychain Capital, Multicoin Capital and The Spartan Group. It started as a social-trading and strategy tool and was rebuilt into general-purpose routing and bundling infrastructure.
Enso ran an oversubscribed community round on CoinList in June 2025, allocating four percent of supply, and the token went live in mid-October 2025 with deployments on Ethereum and BNB Chain. The public site currently cites more than 100 applications, over 250 supported protocols and around 1,900 developers building with it.
Enso's design rests on two primitives and a routing layer.
Actions An Action abstracts a single smart contract interaction into a reusable component with a declared type, such as Swap, Lend, Borrow, Deposit, Repay, Approve or Transfer. Protocols are stored as entities in a shared graph recording function signatures, inputs, outputs and the chain IDs where each deployment exists.
Shortcuts A Shortcut combines Actions into a reusable workflow. Zapping an arbitrary token into a vault position, for example, is a swap, an approval and a deposit.
Routing and bundling The Route API searches for an optimal path between two positions and returns executable calldata in one call. The Bundle API does the opposite: the developer specifies the ordered actions and Enso assembles them into a single signer-ready transaction. A separate Quoter simulates transactions before signing, and cross-chain routes settle through bridges including Stargate, CCIP, Relay and CCTP.
The whitepaper additionally describes Enso as a Tendermint-based coordination layer with three participant classes: Action Providers who publish action templates, Graphers who compute candidate solutions, and Validators who simulate and accept the winning solution. Be precise about what is verifiable today. The public developer documentation covers the API surface in depth and documents the Validator role, but publishes no equivalent operational documentation for Graphers, Action Providers or a live Enso settlement chain, and ENSO trades as an ERC-20 rather than as the gas asset of an independent Enso layer 1. Treat the decentralized network as an in-progress design and the API product as the part demonstrably in production.
Per Enso's own tokenomics documentation, ENSO is "a critical component of the Enso ecosystem, and the network cannot function without the token." Documented roles are:
Supply is set out precisely. Genesis supply is 100,000,000 ENSO and the documented maximum supply is 127,339,703. Initial annual inflation starts at 8 percent and decays monthly to 0.35468 percent by year ten, after which inflation ceases. Distribution is Investors 31.305 percent, Team 25 percent, Ecosystem including airdrop 21.59 percent, Foundation 16.605 percent, Community Round 4 percent and Advisors 1.5 percent.
One contract-level detail matters. The Ethereum ENSO token is an upgradeable ERC-1967 proxy whose implementation exposes an owner-restricted mint function alongside ERC-20 Votes and permit support, and no burn function. That is consistent with the published inflation schedule, since emissions require minting, but it means holders rely on the owner key and upgrade path behaving as documented rather than on immutable code.
Most routing products optimize one thing, usually a token swap. Enso optimizes the whole position transition, including entry into vaults, lending collateral and non-tokenized positions that a conventional aggregator cannot represent. The shared graph is the leverage: once a protocol is modeled as typed Actions, every integrator gets it at once, and the same model can be consumed by automated agents as easily as by a front end. The chain list is unusually broad for a single API; as of the July 2026 revision of its documentation, Enso supported more than twenty networks including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, BNB Chain, Optimism, Polygon, Linea, zkSync, Unichain, Sonic, Berachain, Katana, Plasma and Monad.
Against bridge-centric protocols such as LayerZero, Stargate, Wormhole or Axelar, Enso is not primarily a messaging or asset-transport layer; it composes calls across whatever transport is available and treats bridging as one Action among many. Against classic decentralized exchange aggregators, its scope is wider because the target is any position, not any token. Against intent frameworks that require a bespoke solver network before anything works, Enso shipped the API first and is decentralizing behind it, which is pragmatic but means the trust model today is closer to a hosted service than to a permissionless network.
Execution security rests on the destination chains: a transaction Enso constructs is settled and validated by Ethereum, BNB Chain or whichever network it targets. Enso adds simulation as a defense, since the Quoter validates transactions before they are signed and Validators are documented as accepting requests only after proving the generated calldata can execute safely. Token-level security depends on the proxy owner and on the governance process controlling upgrades and emissions, while cross-chain routes inherit the security of the specific bridge used for each leg.
Integration cost is a real constraint on shipping on-chain products. A team supporting twenty protocols across fifteen chains traditionally maintains hundreds of bespoke adapters. Enso turns that into one API contract and a shared graph, an abstraction that also suits software agents needing to reason about on-chain actions without bespoke code per protocol. If intent-based execution becomes the default interface for on-chain applications, the value sits with whoever owns the most complete and best-maintained action graph.
ENSO trades on both decentralized and centralized venues, and on-chain it is available on Ethereum and BNB Chain decentralized exchanges. Verify the contract address against Enso's own tokenomics page before trading, since the token is deployed at a different address on each chain.
ENSO has been listed on multiple centralized exchanges since its October 2025 launch. Availability varies by jurisdiction, and the deposit network matters because the Ethereum and BNB Chain deployments are distinct contracts.
