Boson Protocol is a set of smart contracts for buying and selling real-world and digital goods on-chain with escrow built in: the buyer either receives the item or gets their money back. BOSON is its governance and incentive token. It matters because most crypto trading covers assets that already live on-chain, while Boson tries to make trades of physical goods, services and tokenized real-world assets enforceable between parties who do not trust each other.
The project now presents itself as a "decentralized Agentic Commerce Protocol" (dACP), aimed at AI agents and apps as well as human buyers and sellers.
The official press center describes Boson Protocol as decentralised public infrastructure for commerce "built by Redeemeum Labs and an expanding number of decentralized teams", with a press contact in the United Kingdom. The individual founders are not named on the official pages reviewed for this article.
The project describes itself as live since 2021. The current contracts are Boson Protocol V2, which its developers describe as an entirely new codebase and architecture compared with V1.
The core exchange mechanism follows a clear lifecycle:
Offer A seller creates an offer for a product or service and can post a deposit in an ERC-20 token or the chain's native token.
Commit A buyer pays the offer price, which is held in escrow, and receives a Redeemable NFT (rNFT). The rNFT is a standard ERC-721 token that can be held or transferred until it is redeemed.
Redeem The buyer redeems the rNFT within the redemption period to claim the item. After the dispute period passes with no complaint, the seller can complete the exchange and withdraw the funds.
Dispute and escalation If the item is damaged or not as described, the buyer can raise a dispute. Buyer and seller can settle it themselves by agreeing on the share of the pot (all funds committed by both sides) the buyer receives. If they cannot agree, the buyer can escalate to the offer's designated dispute resolver, paying a small deposit as spam protection.
Sellers can also pre-mint vouchers so an offer can be sold on NFT marketplaces; buying a pre-minted voucher automatically commits to the offer for the buyer.

The official token page describes BOSON as the core economic unit of the ecosystem, used to govern the protocol, incentivize participants and share in the value created. In practice:
BOSON is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum (0xC477D038d5420C6A9e0b031712f61c5120090de9), with official deployments listed on Polygon, Base, Optimism and Arbitrum.
Boson focuses on the hardest part of on-chain commerce: goods that exist off-chain. Its game-theoretic design pushes buyers and sellers to settle disputes themselves, using third-party resolvers only as a fallback. The rNFT also turns a purchase into a transferable on-chain claim, which the project says can be resold or used in DeFi as collateral or a forward contract.
Boson is an application protocol, not a blockchain. It runs as smart contracts on existing EVM networks. Compared with real-world-asset platforms such as Centrifuge or Ondo, which focus on bringing financial assets on-chain, Boson focuses on the commerce transaction itself: escrow, redemption and dispute handling for any item.
The project lists digital goods and API services, luxury goods and collectibles, freelance and agent-delivered work, tokenized real-world assets, event tickets and bookings, and agent-to-agent purchasing. It also announced a WooCommerce integration through Facet that lets AI agents buy from WooCommerce stores with purchases settled in Boson escrow.
Buyer protection comes from escrowed payments, seller deposits and the dispute process. The V2 contracts have published audits by PeckShield (v2.0) and multiple Omniscia reports covering versions 2.0 through 2.5.1. The project runs a bug bounty program and uses role-based access control for privileged functions, with the stated goal of handing upgrade control to the DAO over time.
If on-chain commerce is to move beyond trading tokens, it needs a neutral way to handle escrow and disputes for real goods and services. Boson is one of the more developed attempts at that layer, with open-source contracts, multiple audits and deployments on several EVM chains.
BOSON trades on centralized exchanges and on decentralized exchanges on Ethereum and the other EVM networks where it is deployed. The official token page lists the verified contract address for each chain; check it before trading on a DEX.
According to the official token page, BOSON can be stored in any ERC-20 compatible wallet and is natively integrated with Ledger and MetaMask. For the other chains, use a wallet that supports that network and add the matching contract address.
