Contentos (COS) is the native coin of Contentos, a blockchain built for digital content, where users post, comment and vote, and creators are rewarded according to the voting weight their content receives. COS is also tied to COS.TV, the project's video platform. It matters as one of the attempts to put content ownership and creator rewards on a dedicated chain rather than on an ad-driven platform.
Contentos (also called coschain) is a Layer 1 blockchain focused on content creation. According to its documentation, users take part by posting, replying and voting, and rewards flow to authors based on the "vote power" behind the votes on their posts. The project describes its goal as a decentralized content ecosystem in which content can be freely produced, authenticated and distributed.
The chain supports smart contracts, so developers can build their own dApps, and it exposes gRPC and RESTful APIs. COS also exists as a token on other networks: a BEP-2 asset (COS-2E4) and an ERC-20 token on Ethereum.
The project's own description says its team comes from the content industry, and that Contentos received investment from Binance Labs, DHVC and other funds. It also names LiveMe and Cheetah Mobile as strategic partners. The individual founders are not named on the sources reviewed here, and the official website blocked automated access when checked, so this page does not list them.
The node software, contentos-go, is open source, and the coschain GitHub organization also hosts the block explorer and an open-source COS.TV app. The block explorer and web wallet were online when checked.
Contentos uses a consensus protocol it calls SaBFT, which combines DPoS-style block production with a BFT finality layer. According to the technical whitepaper, each validator produces 10 blocks in a row, a block is produced every second, and the BFT process confirms blocks in about 1 to 2 seconds under test conditions. Once a block is committed by BFT, it cannot be reverted.
Instead of paying a fee per transaction, users spend "stamina." Every account receives some free stamina daily, enough for basic actions, and stamina refills within a day. Heavy users can raise their stamina capacity by converting COS into a resource unit the docs call "Chicken."
The docs describe three related units:
COS The base currency, with six decimal places, freely transferable between accounts.
VEST COS converted into voting power. More VEST means each vote adds more weight to a post, and at least 30,000 VEST is required to register as a block producer. Converting COS to VEST is instant, while converting VEST back to COS takes 13 weeks.
Chicken COS staked for stamina, which lets an account send more transactions without paying per-transaction fees.
Contentos combines a social content reward model with fee-less transactions through stamina and fast BFT finality. Keeping the tradable coin (COS) separate from influence (VEST) and resource capacity (Chicken) lets the chain treat voting power and throughput as separate resources.
Steem and Hive use a similar "vote on posts to reward authors" model with a vesting token for influence; Contentos follows that pattern but adds BFT finality and a video platform. Theta Network and Livepeer focus on video delivery and transcoding infrastructure rather than social rewards. Audius targets music streaming specifically.
Security comes from elected block producers and the SaBFT finality layer: a block that passes the BFT round is final. The 13-week delay on converting VEST back to COS discourages short-term attacks on voting. No independent security audit of the chain was found on the sources reviewed here.
Contentos is an example of the content-reward model applied to video and social posting, with a resource design aimed at letting ordinary users interact without paying fees. It sits in the same family as Steem and Hive, making it useful for comparing how creator-reward chains trade off speed, cost and decentralization.
COS trades on centralized exchanges, and the ERC-20 version can also be traded on decentralized venues on Ethereum. Check which network an exchange supports before withdrawing.
Native COS is held through the official Contentos web wallet. ERC-20 COS can be stored in any Ethereum wallet, including hardware wallets.
