What is the current price of Theta Network?
The current price of Theta Network is $0.175 with a 4.85% change in the last 24 hours.
Theta Network is a dual system: an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain paired with a decentralized edge network of user-operated nodes. It began as an incentive layer for peer-to-peer video delivery and now positions itself as a decentralized compute layer for AI, with edge nodes supplying GPU capacity and the chain handling payments and smart contracts. It runs a two-token model in which THETA is staked to secure and govern the chain while TFUEL pays for operations.
Official resources:
Theta Labs was founded in 2017 by Mitch Liu, its CEO, and Jieyi Long, its CTO, both previously of the esports streaming company SLIVER.tv. The token dates to December 2017 as an ERC-20 asset, version 2.0 of the whitepaper is dated 11 November 2018, and ERC-20 THETA was swapped one-for-one for the native coin at mainnet launch.
Theta uses what the whitepaper calls multi-level BFT consensus, splitting block production from finalization. A validator committee proposes and votes on blocks using a PBFT-style process; documentation puts the active set at a maximum of 31 nodes with a 200,000 THETA minimum stake, and candidates outside the top 31 by stake earn no rewards. Guardian nodes, requiring a minimum of 1,000 THETA, then seal blocks at checkpoints and act as a check on malicious validators.
THETA is the staking and governance asset. It is staked to validator or guardian nodes to secure consensus, and operators earn TFUEL rewards in proportion to the THETA staked; it is not the gas token. Supply is permanently fixed at 1 billion, and the whitepaper is explicit about why: since no new THETA can be created, the only way to accumulate a threatening position is to buy existing coins, which becomes progressively more expensive.
TFUEL is the operational counterpart. Five billion were generated at mainnet launch and distributed to THETA holders at the swap, with a target annual supply increase, initially 5 percent, paid to validators and guardians in proportion to staked THETA, while TFUEL spent as gas is burned.
The two-token security argument is more carefully reasoned than most dual-token designs and drives a concrete choice: THETA never inflates, TFUEL does. Theta also runs real hardware rather than only a ledger, and its validator council includes named corporate operators such as Google, Samsung and Sony.
Render is a GPU rendering marketplace running on another chain rather than operating its own consensus, Livepeer focuses on decentralized video transcoding and settles on Ethereum, and Akash and io.net are compute marketplaces without their own Layer 1. Theta is the only one running its own chain, its own edge hardware network and a commercial cloud product on top.
Security rests on staked THETA and the two-tier consensus: the validator committee finalizes blocks quickly, while the guardian pool, which requires far less capital to join, would have to be compromised alongside the validators for an attack to succeed.
Block production is concentrated among at most 31 validators with a high stake minimum, and because THETA never inflates the security budget comes from TFUEL issuance, so TFUEL holders bear the dilution. EdgeCloud competes against very well capitalized centralized GPU providers, and its published rates are denominated in dollars rather than TFUEL, so revenue growth does not translate mechanically into token demand. Theta documentation also states that MetaMask does not support the native THETA token, creating custody friction.
Theta is one of the longer-running attempts to build a decentralized physical infrastructure network with real hardware behind it, and it has kept operating through multiple cycles while adding enterprise validators and paying customers for compute.
THETA is listed on major centralized exchanges including Binance, OKX, Upbit, Bybit, KuCoin, HTX, Gate and Crypto.com Exchange. As a native coin it has no significant Ethereum-side decentralized exchange market.
The official Theta Wallet, on web and as iOS and Android apps, is the primary way to hold THETA and TFUEL and to stake to guardian or validator nodes. MetaMask can connect to Theta mainnet using chain ID 361 and will handle TFUEL and TNT-20 tokens, but Theta documentation states it does not support the native THETA token.
