What Is Verasity?

Verasity is an advertising technology company whose VRA token funds video ad campaigns, moves through its own custodial wallet and pays out rewards to viewers. Its core idea is Proof of View (PoV), a patented system for telling real video views apart from bot traffic and recording them on a ledger so advertisers can audit what they paid for. Verasity matters because ad fraud is one of the costliest problems in online video, and it is one of the few crypto projects that has tried to sell a blockchain-based answer directly into the programmatic advertising market.

Who Founded Verasity? (History)

Verasity began around 2018 as a video sharing platform. Its early GitHub description framed it as a way to connect viewers, creators and advertisers, with Proof of View providing a "non-fake view environment" and a token then called VERA for micropayments. The first token was an ERC-20 contract on Ethereum sold in a token sale.

Over time the focus shifted from a consumer video platform to advertising infrastructure. Key documented steps:

• Proof of View patent: Verasity's knowledge base lists US Patent application 16/023,354, "System and Method of Proof of View via Blockchain", as granted after a Notice of Allowance.
• VRAB retirement: a BEP-2 version of the token on Binance Chain (VRAB) was delisted and support ended on 29 June 2020, after a swap program of more than ten months.
• ERC-777 migration: VRA moved from ERC-20 to ERC-777, which is backward compatible with ERC-20. The only supported contract is now 0xf411903cbc70a74d22900a5de66a2dda66507255 with 18 decimals.

The website describes a senior leadership team with experience in advertising, blockchain and crypto on its team page; we could not confirm individual names from an openable source, so they are not listed here.

How Verasity Works

1. Ad delivery with verification Publishers run ads through the VeraViews stack. Proof of View analyses each impression to separate humans from bots and records the result, so both sides see an auditable view count.

2. Paying with VRA Advertisers fund campaigns in VeraViews with VRA, per Verasity's own description of the token.

3. Viewer rewards Through Watch & Earn, users can be rewarded in VRA for watching video content.

4. Wallet layer VeraWallet, the official VRA wallet, holds balances, handles staking and automatically swaps legacy ERC-20 VRA to ERC-777 on deposit.

• Rewards: earning through Watch & Earn.
• Staking: VeraWallet staking pays 0.0411% per day, equivalent to 15% per year, until 31 March 2027, according to the staking rates page. The minimum stake is 100,000 VRA, stakes must be held 24 hours before rewards start (paid at midnight UTC), and unstaking has a 72-hour lock-out. Verasity says rewards are pre-allocated by its Foundation rather than newly issued.

What Makes Verasity Unique?

• Patented approach: its view-verification method is covered by a US patent.
• Advertising first: the token is tied to a specific business, video ad buying, rather than to a general-purpose chain.
• Integrated wallet and staking: staking runs inside a company-operated wallet with a fixed published rate, not through on-chain validator economics.

How Verasity Differs from Similar Chains

• Versus Basic Attention Token, which rewards attention inside the Brave browser, Verasity sells fraud verification to video publishers and advertisers.
• Versus Theta Network and Livepeer, which decentralise video delivery and transcoding, Verasity focuses on ad measurement rather than streaming infrastructure.
• Unlike those networks, Verasity does not run its own public blockchain for VRA: the token lives on Ethereum, with a version on BNB Chain.

Staking is not on-chain consensus: it is a service inside VeraWallet, so users rely on Verasity's custody and operational security while their tokens are there. The project's legacy token-sale contract had a published audit at the time; no recent third-party audit of VeraWallet is documented on the sources we could open.

Risks and Considerations

• Custodial staking: tokens staked in VeraWallet are held by the company, which creates counterparty risk.
• Fixed-rate schedule: the published 15% rate runs until 31 March 2027; terms after that date are not documented.
• Contract confusion: only the ERC-777 contract is supported. Legacy ERC-20 VRA and the retired VRAB token should not be confused with it.
• Business dependence: token demand depends on real adoption of VeraViews by advertisers and publishers, which is hard to verify from outside.
• Token standard nuances: ERC-777 hooks behave differently from plain ERC-20 in some DeFi contracts.

Why Verasity Matters

Verasity is one of the longest-running attempts to apply blockchain to a large, measurable business problem: fraudulent views in video advertising. Whether or not it wins market share, it shows how a token can be positioned as a payment and reward unit inside a specific industry rather than a general platform.

Where Can You Buy Verasity?

VRA trades on centralized exchanges and on decentralized exchanges on Ethereum. Confirm that a venue supports the ERC-777 contract before depositing, as Verasity warns that sending legacy tokens to the wrong platform can lead to losses.

Storage Options After Purchase

VRA can be held in VeraWallet, which is required for Verasity's staking program, or in self-custody Ethereum wallets such as MetaMask and hardware wallets like Ledger by adding contract 0xf411903cbc70a74d22900a5de66a2dda66507255. Self-custody avoids company counterparty risk but does not earn VeraWallet staking rewards.
