Samoyedcoin (SAMO) is a dog-themed community token on Solana, launched in April 2021 and described by its team as the first memecoin on that network. It has no protocol or chain of its own: SAMO is an SPL token whose purpose is to act as a community and onboarding brand for Solana, which the project calls being "Solana's Ambassador". It matters as one of the earliest Solana memecoins, with a supply that was cut by more than half through burns in 2022.
The project's stated vision is to accelerate the adoption, development and growth of the Solana ecosystem, and its strategy is education and community rather than a technical product.
The official site says SAMO's founders became involved in the Solana ecosystem in early 2021 and created SAMO to add some fun to it, but it does not name them. Milestones the project lists include:
SAMO is a standard SPL token on Solana (mint address 7xKXtg2CW87d97TXJSDpbD5jBkheTqA83TZRuJosgAsU). Transfers, swaps and DeFi use happen through ordinary Solana programs, so SAMO inherits Solana's fast confirmations and low fees. There is no mining, staking protocol or in-token emission schedule: according to the site, no more SAMO will ever be created. Community coordination happens off-chain through Discord, X and SamoDAO.

SAMO predates the 2023 and 2024 wave of Solana memecoins, and it positioned itself early as a marketing and onboarding brand for Solana rather than a pure joke token. The community, called the "Samo Famo", explicitly rejects bot-driven or shill-heavy promotion.
