MovieBloc is a streaming platform for short films and independent cinema with a blockchain token attached to its reward economy. The pitch has been consistent since 2019: creators get a transparent revenue share, access to audience data, and screening opportunity that does not depend on a distributor, while viewers earn rewards for contributing subtitles, curation and reporting.
MBL is the platform's utility token. It is an OEP-4 token on the Ontology blockchain, and it is used for platform payments and for rewarding the contributions that keep the catalog watchable across languages.
Because MovieBloc is one of the longer-running projects in this category, the most useful thing this page can tell you is whether it is still alive. It is, and the evidence is set out below.
Official sources:
MovieBloc was founded by a South Korean team and grew out of an earlier video platform effort, with Hyunwoo Lee publicly associated as chief executive. The project ran its token distribution in 2019 and the MBL contract was deployed to Ontology on December 12, 2019.
MBL originally existed as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. When MovieBloc moved to the Ontology mainnet, it opened a token swap from ERC-20 MBL to OEP-4 MBL on February 17, 2020. That history matters practically: the legacy Ethereum contract at 0xB879DA8b24c9b8685dE8526cF492E954f165D74b still exists and still reports a 30 billion total, so a wallet showing an Ethereum MBL balance is not showing a second allocation. The live asset is the Ontology OEP-4 token.
Checked on September 11, 2026, the answer is yes on the product side and effectively no on the protocol side. State it plainly rather than hedging:
The honest summary is that MovieBloc is an operating media business with a static token contract, not a protocol under continuous engineering. That is a legitimate shape for a project of this type, but it is a different thing from an actively developed blockchain protocol, and a reader should know which one they are looking at.
Distribution Filmmakers upload short and independent work to the platform, which handles streaming, discovery and regional availability without a traditional distributor in the middle.
Contribution rewards Viewers can add foreign-language subtitles, write curation and reviews, produce marketing material, and report illegal uploads. These contributions are what MBL rewards, and they are the reason a token exists in the design at all: subtitle and curation work is exactly the kind of distributed labor that is hard to pay for through conventional channels.
Payments MBL is used for payment-related services on the platform, including premium content and translation work.
Settlement The token itself settles on Ontology, a public chain with its own OEP-4 token standard, so transfers and balances are independently verifiable on the Ontology explorer.

The MovieBloc Foundation publishes four wallet addresses covering its ecosystem, airdrop, team and foundation allocations, stated at 43 percent, 11 percent, 15 percent and 10 percent respectively, which makes treasury movement auditable on chain.
MovieBloc's distinguishing feature is that the token pays for work that genuinely has no other funding source. Subtitling a Korean short film into Portuguese is real, valuable labor that no distributor will pay for at the scale of independent cinema. Paying for it with a token on a public ledger is one of the more defensible uses of a reward token in media.
Its second distinguishing feature is longevity. MovieBloc launched in 2019 and is still operating a public streaming service in 2026, which puts it in a small minority of media tokens from that cohort.
The comparison to draw is that MovieBloc is a media product with a token, while those projects are protocols that media products can build on.
MBL inherits the security of Ontology, which uses a Byzantine fault tolerant consensus with a consensus node set. The token contract is a NeoVM OEP-4 contract compiled in 2019 and unchanged since. That is a double-edged fact. An unchanged contract cannot be upgraded out from under holders, but it also means any weakness in the original code is permanent, and the contract predates most of the tooling and audit practice the industry now considers normal.
Off-chain, the platform itself is a conventional web service, so account security, content rights and payment handling depend on MovieBloc's own operational practices rather than on the chain.
Most token-and-media projects from the 2019 cohort are gone. MovieBloc is still running a catalog, still programming festivals, and still paying contributors in its own token. That makes it a genuinely useful reference case for whether a token can fund distributed creative labor over a long period, rather than only during an incentive campaign.
MBL trades on centralized exchanges, with Korean and international venues historically providing the deepest markets. Availability and pairs vary by jurisdiction. Confirm that any exchange you use supports the Ontology network for MBL deposits and withdrawals.

Listings change over time, so check the exchange directly before planning a transfer.
MBL can be held:
Always send MBL over the Ontology network. Sending to an Ethereum address, or withdrawing to a wallet that only understands the legacy ERC-20 contract, will not deliver the live asset.
