Animecoin is a culture token built around anime fandom, issued by the Animecoin Foundation and closely associated with Azuki, one of the better known anime-styled NFT brands. Its stated purpose is to turn a passive fan base into a participating one, by giving fans and creators a shared asset for funding, collecting and coordinating anime projects. In practice ANIME serves two roles: a community and distribution token across the Azuki-linked ecosystem, and the gas token of AnimeChain, a dedicated network for anime applications.
Because "ANIME" is a name that several unrelated tokens have used, this page is anchored to specific contracts rather than to the ticker. The canonical ERC-20 is on Ethereum at 0x4DC26fC5854e7648a064a4ABD590bBE71724C277, which returns the name "Animecoin", the symbol ANIME and 18 decimals when read directly, with a total supply of exactly 10,000,000,000 tokens. The widely used Arbitrum One address 0x37a645648df29205c6261289983fb04ecd70b4b3 is not a second issuance: it is the bridged representation of that same Ethereum token, and the verification is shown below.
Official sources:
ANIME is issued by the Animecoin Foundation, an entity created to steward the token rather than by a conventional startup with a named engineering founder. Its gravitational center is Azuki, the anime-styled NFT collection launched by Chiru Labs, whose community and collections supply the ecosystem the token is meant to serve.
The token launched on January 23, 2025, distributed through a claim open to Azuki holders and to a wider set of anime and crypto communities, across Ethereum and Arbitrum. The Foundation issued a fixed total of ten billion ANIME, with a large share, reported at 37.5 percent, directed to the Azuki community and unlocked at launch. That front-loaded distribution is central to how the token has behaved since, and it is discussed under risks below.
The Foundation has not published a traditional whitepaper. Its public design document is the "blueprint" on the official site. Community-maintained technical documentation for AnimeChain exists at animechain.dev, which is explicitly community-created and not an official Foundation publication, so treat it as a helpful reference rather than as authoritative specification.
A fixed genesis mint on Ethereum The full ten billion ANIME was created when the Ethereum contract was deployed. Nothing in the deployed contract can create more.
Canonical bridging to Arbitrum The Ethereum contract implements Arbitrum's custom token interface, exposing the registration and gateway configuration functions that a token needs in order to use Arbitrum's canonical bridge. Tokens bridged to Arbitrum are locked in the Arbitrum custom gateway on Ethereum and minted on Arbitrum by the gateway.
AnimeChain as the application layer AnimeChain is an Arbitrum Orbit network, verified live with chain ID 69000, on which ANIME is the custom gas token. The intent is that anime applications, collectibles, streaming and social features settle there, and that fans need only one token to use them, with sponsored transactions available to smooth onboarding for users arriving from outside crypto.
Community allocation and governance The Foundation's model directs a portion of supply to creators and community initiatives, with holders able to signal on ecosystem decisions.
Note what ANIME is not. It does not secure Ethereum or Arbitrum, it earns no protocol fee stream from them, and holding it grants no ownership of Azuki intellectual property.
The distinguishing bet is cultural rather than technical: that anime fandom is large and engaged enough to support its own on-chain economy, and that a token plus a dedicated chain is a better coordination tool for creators than a generic NFT marketplace. The existence of a working Orbit chain with ANIME as gas is the concrete part of that bet, and it puts Animecoin in a different category from culture tokens that never ship infrastructure.
The second distinguishing feature is the starting distribution. Very little of the supply was withheld behind long vesting at launch, which made the token unusually widely held from day one.
The fair summary is a culture token with real infrastructure attached, whose value case rests on adoption of that culture rather than on fees from neutral infrastructure.
ANIME does not run a consensus mechanism of its own on Ethereum or Arbitrum, so its base security is whatever those networks provide, and AnimeChain inherits from Arbitrum as an Orbit chain.
The contracts themselves were read directly in September 2026, and the findings are clean:
Neither ANIME contract lets anyone mint or burn at will
The Ethereum contract's deployed bytecode exposes no mint function, no burn function, no pause function, no blacklist and no cap(). The ten billion figure is therefore accurate and enforced by the absence of a minting path. The contract is ownable, with the owner at 0xf9157FCBfADA1Df3A5442C7ea9802C3713F1e8f3, an externally owned account with no contract code, but the owner-gated functions that exist are Arbitrum gateway registration functions rather than supply controls.
The Arbitrum token is the canonical bridge representation, confirmed three ways
Calling l1Address() on the Arbitrum contract returns the Ethereum ANIME address. Asking Arbitrum's own L2 gateway router to compute the bridged address for the Ethereum ANIME token returns exactly 0x37a645648df29205c6261289983fb04ecd70b4b3. And the Arbitrum custom gateway on Ethereum holds an ANIME balance that matches the Arbitrum-side supply. The Arbitrum token exposes bridgeMint and bridgeBurn, callable only by the gateway, which is exactly what canonical bridging requires and is not a discretionary issuer mint.
The Ethereum contract supports gasless approvals It implements the permit standard, which lets holders approve spending with a signature rather than a separate transaction.
In short, anyone comparing the two addresses should understand them as one asset with a bridge between them, not as two tokens that happen to share a name.
Animecoin is one of the more serious attempts to convert a large non-crypto fandom into an on-chain economy, and it went further than most by shipping a dedicated chain rather than stopping at a token. Whether it succeeds is unresolved, but as a reference case for how NFT brands extend into infrastructure, and for how a launch distribution shapes everything that follows, it is worth understanding on the specifics rather than on the slogan.
ANIME is listed on centralized exchanges and trades on decentralized exchanges on Ethereum and Arbitrum. Availability and pairs vary by jurisdiction. Before trading, confirm which chain the venue is using, because the Ethereum and Arbitrum addresses are different.
ANIME is often available on:
Withdrawal networks differ by venue, so check whether a withdrawal will arrive on Ethereum or on Arbitrum before you send it anywhere.
Add the token by contract address rather than by symbol search, since the symbol alone does not identify this asset.
