Pups (PUPS) is a community memecoin on Bitcoin that came out of the Bitcoin Puppets NFT community. It launched in April 2023 as a BRC-20 token and later moved to Bitcoin's Runes standard under the rune name PUPS•WORLD•PEACE. It matters mainly as one of the earliest memecoins on Bitcoin and as a cultural token tied to the Ordinals scene; the project itself states it has no intrinsic value and is for entertainment.

Pups has no named founders. The official site says it is community led and was "born in the shed" by the O.P.I.U.M. holder community, which predates the 10,001-piece Bitcoin Puppets Ordinals collection.
Timeline:
April 2023: BRC-20 launch PUPS launched as a fair-launch and airdrop BRC-20 token, the first fungible token standard built on Bitcoin Ordinals. A wrapped version was bridged to Solana.
April 2024: rune etched at the halving The rune PUPS•WORLD•PEACE was minted at the Bitcoin halving block, when the Runes protocol went live.
2024: migration to Runes Holders migrated BRC-20 PUPS to Runes through OrdKit on Bitcoin, while holders of wrapped PUPS on Solana migrated to wrapped Runes through RuneMine. Each old PUPS became 100 new units. The migration deadline was November 5, 2024.
Runes is a fungible token protocol created by Casey Rodarmor, the creator of Ordinals. Rune balances are recorded in Bitcoin transaction outputs (UTXOs) using data in an OP_RETURN field, so PUPS moves with ordinary Bitcoin transactions and needs no separate chain or smart contracts.
The final supply is 1 billion PUPS: 770 million came from the BRC-20 and Solana holders and 230 million from the original rune holders, with the whole supply distributed and no team reserve described. A wrapped representation exists on Solana (2oGLxYuNBJRcepT1mEV6KnETaLD7Bf6qq3CM6skasBfe), bridged through RuneMine.
PUPS has no protocol utility: no staking, governance or fee function. Its role is cultural, as a community token with a "spread world peace" message. The official site explicitly says it has no intrinsic value or expectation of financial return.
Pups is among the first memecoins on Bitcoin and one of the few to have lived through Bitcoin's token history, from BRC-20 to Runes, while keeping a parallel presence on Solana. Its origin in an Ordinals art community gives it a clearer cultural identity than many memecoins.
The rune version is secured by Bitcoin's proof-of-work network, since balances live in Bitcoin transactions. The Solana version depends on Solana's network and on the RuneMine bridge, which adds bridge risk. There is no smart contract to audit on the Bitcoin side.
