Arkham is a blockchain intelligence platform combined with a crypto trading venue, built around the idea of "linking cryptocurrency activity to real world individuals and institutions." Its intelligence product attributes on-chain addresses to named entities and publishes entity pages showing holdings, transaction history, counterparties and exchange usage, while its exchange offers spot and perpetual futures trading in the same interface. ARKM is the network's token: it is the currency of the Arkham Intel Exchange, where users pay for on-chain information through bounties and auctions, and it provides trading fee discounts on the exchange. The company describes its goal as "integrating that intelligence with execution in a single platform."
Official resources:
Arkham was founded in January 2020 by Miguel Morel, initially based in San Francisco, with the company later operating from the Dominican Republic alongside offices in London and New York. Early angel backers reported publicly include Tim Draper, Joe Lonsdale of Palantir and Sam Altman.
The ARKM token launched in July 2023 through Binance Launchpad, with 50,000,000 tokens offered out of a total supply of 1,000,000,000. Binance Research recorded the allocation as 37.30% to ecosystem and community incentives, 20.00% to core contributors, 17.50% to investors, 17.20% to the foundation treasury, 5.00% to the Launchpad sale and 3.00% to advisors, with an initial circulating supply of 15%. The launch drew criticism from privacy advocates over the Intel Exchange model of paying users to identify wallet owners.
Arkham later moved into trading. A perpetual futures exchange went live in November 2024, and spot trading was extended to users in a list of US states from March 2025.
The intelligence layer runs on a system Arkham calls Ultra, documented as "a proprietary AI system for blockchain data synthesis, which gathers on and off-chain data from a variety of sources and synthesizes them to form a single, scalable, amendable source of truth." Ultra clusters addresses and matches them to entities, producing what the documentation describes as "over 300mm labels and 150,000 entity pages with a complete view of the firm or person's activity." On top of that sit a network visualizer for counterparty analysis, token pages, transaction alerts, dashboards, private labeling and an API.
The Intel Exchange is the market layer. Buyers post ARKM-denominated bounties for specific intelligence, and "anyone seeking the same intelligence can join the bounty by locking an equivalent amount of ARKM, which is added to the total reward." Contributors submit intelligence and stake 10 ARKM alongside it. Submissions are "reviewed by the Arkham Foundation, which either approves or rejects it," and that response is "validated on-chain using a Chainlink Decentralized Oracle Network (DON), which serves as the oracle for the bounty and auction smart contracts." Approved submissions start a 15-day unlock timer before payout. Sellers can also run auctions with an end date and a buy-now price.
The exchange layer offers spot markets and perpetual futures with "dynamic margin schedules, and funding rates applied hourly," market, limit and take-profit or stop-loss orders, and an insurance fund intended to "cover shortfalls to protect the system" during liquidations.
ARKM has three documented uses. First, it is the settlement currency of the Intel Marketplace, "where anyone can trade the native currency, ARKM, for information." Buyers lock it into bounties, submitters stake it, and Arkham takes "a 2.5% maker fee on submitted bounties and auction payouts and a 5% taker fee on bounty payouts and successful auction bids." Purchasers receive intelligence exclusively for 90 days, after which it "may be propagated to the broader Arkham platform for everyone to use."
Second, it lowers trading costs. The documentation cites a "25% discount on trading fee payments made in ARKM" and "up to a 100% discount on trading fees for holding ARKM, varying by size of ARKM holdings," with holdings "measured as the minimum balance over the past 30 days" to prevent gaming. Exact tier thresholds live on the exchange fee schedule.
Third, it funds community incentives, with ARKM paid out for referrals and research contributions. The Codex notes that "all ARKM staking and payout is controlled by audited smart contracts, without Arkham ever taking custody of the ARKM."
Most analytics vendors sell attribution data by subscription. Arkham made attribution itself into a two-sided market, paying contributors in ARKM for intelligence that other users want, and it publishes entity pages openly rather than gating everything behind enterprise contracts. Pairing that with an exchange is also unusual: the intelligence that surfaces a large wallet movement and the venue where a user acts on it sit in the same product.
Against pure exchange tokens, ARKM carries a second demand source in the intelligence marketplace rather than only fee discounts. Against data infrastructure tokens that index and serve blockchain data without identifying who is behind an address, Arkham's product is specifically identity attribution, which is both its differentiator and its main controversy. Against subscription-only analytics firms, Arkham's crowdsourced bounty model is faster and more open but places verification in the hands of a foundation-run review process.
ARKM is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, so token-level security is Ethereum's. Marketplace staking and payouts are handled by smart contracts that Arkham describes as audited, though the documentation reviewed does not name the auditing firms. Intelligence verification depends on Arkham Foundation review, with the result committed on-chain through a Chainlink DON so that the outcome is publicly recorded rather than settled privately. The exchange side is a custodial venue: Arkham has promoted on-chain auditing and traceable proof of reserves for it, and maintains an insurance fund for liquidation shortfalls, but funds held there carry ordinary exchange counterparty risk.
Deanonymization is legally and ethically contested, and the Intel Exchange in particular has drawn sustained criticism for incentivizing the identification of private individuals. Regulatory exposure is meaningful on both sides of the business, since operating a derivatives venue and a data business that touches personal information invites scrutiny in multiple jurisdictions. Attribution is probabilistic, and incorrect entity labels can and do occur. Value capture is a genuine open question: most of the company's economics run through the exchange, while the token's clearest claim is on marketplace activity and fee discounts rather than on revenue. Token unlocks for contributors, investors and the treasury continue on a multi-year schedule. Availability is also restricted by jurisdiction, which limits who can use the fee discount at all.
Public blockchains are transparent but not legible. Arkham's contribution is turning raw address activity into entity-level context that traders, researchers and compliance teams actually use, and doing it at a scale that made whale tracking a mainstream habit. That same capability is exactly why the product remains contested, which is a fair summary of why it matters.
ARKM trades on major centralized exchanges, having launched through Binance Launchpad, and on Ethereum decentralized exchanges where liquidity is paired against the ERC-20 contract. It is also natively usable on the Arkham Exchange itself for fee payment. Confirm the contract address on a block explorer before trading on a decentralized venue, and check jurisdiction eligibility before opening an account on any derivatives platform.
ARKM is an ERC-20 token, so any Ethereum-compatible wallet can hold it, including browser wallets and hardware devices. Long-term holders should prefer a hardware wallet. If you plan to use ARKM in Intel Exchange bounties, note that participation locks tokens in smart contracts with unlock timers, so those balances are not immediately spendable. Holding on an exchange to qualify for fee discounts means accepting that venue's custody risk, since the discount tiers are measured against balances held there.
