Altura is a developer platform for Web3 games: it gives studios an API, SDKs (including Unity and Unreal support), a marketplace and an authentication layer so they can mint, update and transfer in-game NFTs without running their own blockchain stack. ALU is the platform's native utility token, used for transactions and services across the Altura ecosystem. It matters because most game teams do not want to learn Solidity, manage nodes or build a marketplace from scratch, and Altura packages those pieces as a service.
The platform's best-known feature is the "Smart NFT", an in-game item whose properties and images can change after minting as a player uses it. It is closer in spirit to Enjin's developer tools, but Enjin has moved toward its own blockchain, while Altura stays chain-agnostic and lets the studio pick an existing network. Security splits into two layers. On-chain, ALU and game items rely on the underlying networks (BNB Chain, Base and the other EVM chains), and marketplace trades use the widely used Seaport contract. Off-chain, Altura runs the API, developer wallets and login services, so studios are trusting Altura's servers and key management for day-to-day operations. Altura Guard II uses Shamir's Secret Sharing through the Web3Auth network so a player's private key is reconstructed locally rather than stored on Altura's servers. Altura is a practical example of the "picks and shovels" approach to blockchain gaming: instead of shipping one game, it tries to make on-chain items easy for many games.
