Alphabet xStock, ticker GOOGLX, is a tokenized equity wrapper, not a blockchain project. It is a financial instrument issued by a regulated special purpose vehicle that gives on-chain economic exposure to Alphabet Inc. Class A shares, the class that trades on Nasdaq under the symbol GOOGL. Each token is fully collateralized one-to-one by the underlying share held with a regulated custodian.
The distinction that matters most is legal. Under the issuer's documentation, each xStock is a bearer debt instrument classified as a tracker certificate. It gives economic exposure to the underlying equity and confers no shareholder voting rights. Holding GOOGLX is not the same as holding Alphabet stock through a broker. There is no protocol, no consensus mechanism, no founding development team, and no governance token.
GOOGLX is issued natively on several networks. The token address is 0xe92f673ca36c5e2efd2de7628f815f84807e803f on Ethereum, Arbitrum, BNB Smart Chain, and Mantle, XsCPL9dNWBMvFtTmwcCA5v3xWPSMEBCszbQdiLLq6aN on Solana, and EQALwJzXnxFjckNsurCi9O2kVg_0b1KdtjOSfvOedlY37iZc on TON.

xStocks are issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited, a Jersey-based special purpose vehicle dedicated solely to issuing and redeeming xStocks. The SPV maintains its own bank and collateral accounts and conducts know-your-customer and anti-money-laundering procedures under Jersey law. It is registered with the Jersey Financial Services Commission and holds the COBO and CGPO consents required to issue security tokens.
This is a product line rather than a project with a founding story. There is no whitepaper, no roadmap in the crypto sense, and no community that governs anything. The xStocks range covers dozens of US-listed stocks and ETFs, and GOOGLX is simply the Alphabet Class A entry in it. The base prospectus and per-product Final Terms are published by the issuer, not by a foundation or a DAO.
The product runs in two layers, a permissioned primary layer and a permissionless secondary layer.
Primary market issuance and redemption Access requires onboarding with the issuer, including KYC and AML checks, after which wallet addresses must be whitelisted. Settlement can be in stablecoins or, through the in-kind flow the issuer calls xPort, in the underlying equity. Primary activity runs on a five-day schedule aligned with the underlying equity market.
Secondary market trading Once issued, GOOGLX trades freely on supported exchanges and DeFi platforms with no issuer involvement, and can trade around the clock depending on the venue. This is why the token price can move while the stock market is closed.
Collateral and segregation Collateral sits with regulated custodians and brokers, is backed asset by asset, and is held in dedicated sub-accounts with no commingling. Tokens referencing Alphabet are backed solely by Alphabet shares.
Bankruptcy protection Collateral accounts are governed by a three-party Account Control Agreement between the issuer, the custodian or broker, and an independent Security Agent. If holder rights are not upheld or the issuer defaults, the Security Agent may take control of the accounts, liquidate the assets, and distribute proceeds under the prospectus terms.
GOOGLX has no staking, no governance, no yield, and no protocol fees. Its economics are the economics of the underlying share, transmitted through a rebasing mechanism the issuer calls the multiplier.
balanceOf() returns the equity-adjusted balance. On Solana and TON the on-chain balance stays constant and the multiplier is held in token metadata, with wallets applying it for displaySecurity here means something different from a blockchain project, and it has three parts.
These risks differ from those of a native crypto asset, and the first four matter most.
Tokenized equities are one of the more credible tests of whether public blockchains can carry regulated financial instruments rather than only native crypto assets. GOOGLX is worth studying because its legal structure is documented in unusual detail: a named issuer, a stated instrument classification, a prospectus regime, segregated collateral, and a defined insolvency path. That disclosure is what separates a genuine wrapper from a synthetic price bet.
