tokenbot is the token associated with Clanker, a token deployment protocol on Base and other EVM chains. Clanker began as a bot that watched social posts: mention it in a cast on Farcaster with a name and a ticker, and it deployed a real ERC-20 and a live liquidity pool within seconds, with no wallet interaction and no contract writing on the user's part. CLANKER was the first token that bot ever deployed, which is why it carries the protocol's identity.
The name here is deliberately awkward. "tokenbot" is a generic phrase, "Clanker" is a widely used slang term, and several unrelated assets have used both. There is only one way to be certain which asset you are looking at, so this page is anchored on it: the ERC-20 at 0x1bc0c42215582d5A085795f4baDbaC3ff36d1Bcb on Base, chain ID 8453. Its on-chain name() returns "tokenbot" and its symbol() returns "CLANKER". Anything at a different address is a different token.
Official sources:
Clanker was built in November 2024 by Farcaster engineer Jack Dishman together with the pseudonymous developer proxystudio.eth. The CLANKER token was deployed on Base on November 8, 2024 as the bot's inaugural launch.
In October 2025 Farcaster announced it had acquired Clanker. Since then the project has kept shipping under the Clanker name, adding a software development kit, an authenticated partner API, deployments beyond Base, and Droids, which are per-token AI agents that get their own Farcaster account and fund their compute from a carve-out of their token's liquidity pool rewards. The "tokenbot" label reflects the rebranding of that period; on-chain, the contract has always read "tokenbot".
It helps to separate the protocol from the token, because they work very differently.
The Clanker protocol is a factory. A user requests a token in a social post or through the SDK. Clanker's backend parses the request and calls a factory contract that deploys a standard ERC-20, seeds a concentrated liquidity position, and wires up fee routing, all in a single flow. Trading is live immediately, without a presale or a manual listing step.
Fees flow back through the protocol. Swap fees on tokens launched through the factory are split between the token's creator and the protocol. This is the part of the system that actually generates revenue, and it scales with how much the deployed tokens trade rather than with how many are created.
The CLANKER token itself is deliberately inert.
It is a bare ERC-20 with no special mechanics. Reading its deployed bytecode confirms this: the contract is roughly 1,620 bytes and exposes only the nine standard ERC-20 selectors, namely name, symbol, decimals, totalSupply, balanceOf, transfer, transferFrom, approve and allowance.
The Clanker stack is made up of:
clanker-sdk package for programmatic deployment, published from the clanker-devco organizationThis is the section where accuracy matters most, because a lot of secondary descriptions overstate it.
CLANKER does not govern the protocol, does not gate deployment, and does not need to be held in order to launch a token. Its documented role is as the asset the protocol buys with fee revenue. After the 2025 acquisition, the combined entity committed protocol fees from deployments to a continuous buyback-and-hold program for CLANKER. That makes CLANKER an indirect claim on protocol activity through market purchases, not a rights-bearing instrument.
Verified against the contract on September 11, 2026, the supply picture is as follows. totalSupply() returns exactly 1,000,000 tokens at 18 decimals. It has never moved and it cannot: the bytecode contains no mint selector, no burn selector, no owner, no transferOwnership, and no proxy delegation. The EIP-1967 implementation storage slot reads zero, so it is not an upgradeable proxy. This is a genuinely fixed supply, not a marketing claim.
One widely repeated statement does need correcting. Coverage of the buyback program describes a percentage of supply as "permanently burned". Because the contract has no burn entrypoint, that is not what happened. Those tokens were transferred to 0x000000000000000000000000000000000000dEaD, an address with no known private key, where a balance of roughly 13,723 CLANKER sits. That removes them from practical circulation, and it is a reasonable thing for a protocol to do, but totalSupply() still reads the full 1,000,000. Circulating supply and total supply diverge for this reason, and any model that assumes the ERC-20 total has shrunk is wrong.
Clanker's distinguishing trait is that token creation happens inside a social feed rather than in a launchpad interface. The user never signs a deployment transaction, never picks liquidity parameters, and never pays gas to create the asset, which collapses the distance between having an idea in a conversation and having a tradable asset to almost nothing. The second trait is the fee architecture: because the protocol earns from swap volume on everything it deploys rather than from a listing fee, its revenue tracks whether launched tokens are actually used.
Against other launch infrastructure and agent tokens:
Several layers apply:
That last point deserves emphasis. Clanker makes deployment trivial, which means it also makes low-effort and malicious deployment trivial. A token existing because Clanker created it says nothing about whether it is worth anything.
Clanker is one of the clearer examples of an agent-operated protocol that produces measurable economic activity rather than a narrative. It turned token deployment from a technical task into a conversational one, and the acquisition of that infrastructure by a social network suggests the pattern is considered durable rather than a passing cycle. For anyone studying how AI agents get wired into on-chain systems, it is a more instructive case than most agent-branded tokens.
CLANKER trades primarily on Base decentralized exchanges through its concentrated liquidity pools, and it is listed on a selection of centralized venues. Availability and pairs vary by jurisdiction. Confirm the contract address before any swap or transfer.
