Self Chain is a layer 1 blockchain built around keyless wallets and "intents": users sign up with an email or social login instead of a seed phrase, and can state a goal in plain language (for example "stake 10 ETH") that the network works out how to execute. SLF is its native token, used for gas, staking, governance and collateral. The project matters as one of the attempts to hide wallet and cross-chain complexity from mainstream users and AI agents by combining MPC key management, account abstraction and intent solving in a single chain.
The project describes itself as a "Modular Intent-Centric Access Layer 1 Blockchain and Keyless Wallet Infrastructure Service". At the time of writing (September 2026) its website, selfchain.xyz, could not be loaded because of a TLS connection error, so this page relies on the project's GitHub repositories, its whitepaper and an archived copy of the website.
Self Chain is the rebrand of Frontier, a non-custodial multi-chain wallet whose token was FRONT. According to the project's rebranding page, Frontier acquired Hot Cross, a multi-chain tool suite, on 26 June 2023, and the combined team proposed turning Frontier into Self Chain. The page says development of the chain's modules, explorer, staking app and migration module began as early as Q4 2022, and that the FRONT-to-SLF proposal passed on the Self Chain DAO with 100% of votes in favour. Frontier's wallet apps were to continue alongside the new chain. Individual founders are not named in the sources reviewed.
Self Chain is written in Go. A branch named for a Cosmos SDK 0.50 upgrade in its node repository suggests it is built on the Cosmos SDK, and the project advertises IBC support and EVM compatibility. Its main layers, per the whitepaper:
Wallet-as-a-Service Keyless wallets where key shares are distributed using MPC and threshold signatures (MPC-TSS), so the private key is never fully reconstructed. Recovery uses social logins and decentralized IDs.
Intent Access Layer A language model interprets what the user wants; "searchers" and "solvers" compete to find the fastest and cheapest route across chains, and solvers are rewarded for good execution.
Multi-chain Account Abstraction Programmable accounts that can batch actions and act on conditions the user has approved.
SLF is used for:
The whitepaper caps total supply at 360 million SLF, allocated as: validator nodes and growth sale 28%, migration from FRONT 25%, ecosystem 19%, equity investors 10%, foundation nodes 10% (permanently locked), and team 8%. Team tokens have a 12-month cliff then 60 months of monthly vesting; investor tokens have a 12-month cliff then 24 months of vesting.
Rather than bolting keyless login onto an existing wallet, Self Chain puts MPC key management and intent solving into the base layer, so any application on the chain can offer seedless accounts and natural-language actions.
Particle Network and NEAR also pursue chain abstraction, with universal accounts and chain signatures respectively. ZetaChain focuses on omnichain smart contracts. Cosmos-based chains in general share IBC connectivity with Self Chain, but few make keyless MPC wallets a native feature.
The chain uses proof-of-stake consensus secured by staked SLF, as described in the whitepaper. Validator penalties are likely similar to other Cosmos SDK chains, but specific slashing parameters were not confirmed for this page. A project audits repository exists, although it does not name an auditor in its readme. The whitepaper also describes MEV protection within the intent layer.
Seed phrases and chain-by-chain complexity remain major barriers for new users. Self Chain is a test of whether putting keyless wallets and intents at the protocol layer can remove them.
SLF trades on centralized and decentralized venues; specific listings were not confirmed from official sources for this page. Because SLF is a native layer 1 coin, make sure any deposit or withdrawal uses the correct network.
Native SLF is held in wallets that support Self Chain. The node repository includes a Keplr configuration folder, which suggests Keplr support, but check current compatibility before sending funds. Exchange custody carries counterparty risk.
