Oraichain is a Cosmos SDK blockchain with CosmWasm smart contracts, built around the idea that a smart contract should be able to request an AI inference and get back a result the chain can verify. It has run since 2020 and describes itself as an AI-focused Layer 1 with oracle services rather than a general-purpose settlement chain. ORAI is its native staking, fee and governance asset.
A live query of the Oraichain mainnet on 2026-09-11 returned chain ID "Oraichain" at a block height above 122 million, so the network is producing blocks and is not dormant.
Official sources:
Oraichain was founded in August 2020 by Chung Dao, Duc Le Pham and Diep Nguyen, operating through Oraichain Labs. Chung Dao is generally credited as chief executive. The project started as an AI oracle on Ethereum and then moved to its own Cosmos-based chain, later upgrading to what it calls Mainnet 2.0 to add interoperability and a broader contract environment. That history explains why ORAI exists in three forms today, and why the Ethereum and BNB Chain representations behave so differently from the native asset.
A Cosmos SDK chain with CosmWasm Validators secure the chain with bonded ORAI, and applications deploy as CosmWasm contracts rather than EVM bytecode. Chain parameters read on 2026-09-11 gave 45,051,428 blocks per year, implying sub-second block times.
AI requests as a first-class transaction type The documentation describes requests that name data sources and test cases. Executing validators run the request, consult AI APIs and test case providers, and return a report. Fees are split between the block proposer, the executing validators, the AI API providers and the test case providers, by voting power where more than one validator is involved.
Oracle services alongside AI The chain offers a price feed through a CosmWasm oracle hub and a verifiable randomness service, VRF 2.0, consumable from other networks including BNB Chain.
An EVM surface OraichainEVM adds an Ethereum-style execution environment with precompiles for bank, wasm, authz and address translation, so Hardhat, Foundry, Remix and MetaMask work against the chain. A live query of the community pool shows balances in both orai and aorai, the eighteen-decimal denomination used on that surface.
Yes, and it is worth stating plainly because Oraichain is one of the longer-running projects in its category. Repositories under the official GitHub organization were pushed within days of 2026-09-11, including the chain's wasmd fork and the Oraichain SDK monorepo, and the chain is producing blocks. The documentation covers OraichainEVM, a comparatively recent addition.
Maintenance is uneven, though. The tokenomics page is still dated August 2023, several ecosystem repositories were last touched in mid-2026, and the supply figures published there no longer match what the chain reports. Active core development with stale public documentation is the honest summary.
ORAI is used to:
On supply, the published tokenomics state a maximum of 19,779,272 ORAI, following three documented burn events: roughly 73 percent of the initial total supply on December 22, 2020, a further 258,449.4 ORAI on March 28, 2021, and 3,000,000 ORAI on June 23, 2021.
That maximum is not enforced by the chain. A live read of the mint module on 2026-09-11 showed inflation_min and inflation_max both set to 0.07, meaning a fixed seven percent annual issuance, with annual provisions of roughly 1,378,000 ORAI and a community tax of twenty percent. Total supply on that date sat just under the documented maximum. A fixed seven percent issuance and a hard ceiling cannot both hold for long, so the correct reading is that ORAI is inflationary by protocol configuration and that the published maximum is a tokenomics target rather than a chain-enforced cap. Check the live chain parameters before relying on any supply figure.
The documentation lists three representations of ORAI: native ORAI on Oraichain, an ERC-20 at 0x4c11249814f11b9346808179cf06e71ac328c1b5 on Ethereum, and a BEP-20 at 0xa325ad6d9c92b55a3fc5ad7e412b1518f96441c0 on BNB Chain.
Both token contracts report a totalSupply of 86,000,000. That figure is misleading on its own. A direct read on 2026-09-11 showed that roughly 96.9 percent of the Ethereum contract's supply sits at the 0x000...dEaD address. Sending tokens to a dead address does not reduce totalSupply, so the contract still reports the original issuance even though the vast majority of it can never move again. Anyone quoting the 86,000,000 figure as Oraichain's supply is quoting an artifact of the migration, not the network.
Most oracle networks deliver numbers. Oraichain delivers the output of a model, with test cases attached so the result can be checked, and pays the data source and test case provider out of the same fee. Combined with CosmWasm, IBC connectivity and an added EVM environment, that gives it unusual surface area for a chain of its size.
Against Chainlink, Band Protocol, API3 and Pyth, Oraichain is a sovereign chain rather than a service deployed onto other chains, and its emphasis is model inference rather than price data alone. Against general Cosmos chains, it adds an application-specific request and report flow. The tradeoff is familiar: a sovereign chain must pay for its own validator security, and Oraichain's set is far smaller than the networks it is measured against.
Oraichain is secured by a proof-of-stake validator set bonding ORAI, with slashing and governance as the usual controls. Risk also lives in the request execution path, since a report depends on the AI APIs and test cases named in the request, and in the bridges, the standard weak point for any chain that moves assets in from elsewhere.
Oraichain has run the same core idea, verifiable AI execution requested from a smart contract, since before that became a crowded category. It shipped a sovereign chain, an exchange, bridges, a wallet, randomness and price feeds, and more recently an EVM environment. For anyone studying how AI and blockchains can actually be joined rather than merely marketed together, it is one of the few long-lived implementations available to inspect.
ORAI trades on centralized exchanges and on OraiDEX. Availability varies by jurisdiction, and liquidity differs sharply between the native asset and its wrapped representations.
ORAI is commonly available on:
Native ORAI, ERC-20 ORAI and BEP-20 ORAI are not interchangeable by address. Confirm which one an exchange is sending before you withdraw.
