Magic Eden is a digital asset marketplace company, best known for building one of the largest NFT trading venues on Solana. ME is its ecosystem token, issued as a Solana SPL token by the ME Foundation and adopted by Magic Eden as the token tied to platform rewards and governance.
An important point up front, because most descriptions get it wrong: Magic Eden is a company and a product, not a blockchain. ME does not secure a network, pay gas, or run consensus. Its value proposition depends on decisions the business makes about rewards, revenue sharing, buybacks, and governance, and the company has changed that scope significantly since the token launched.
Official sources:
Magic Eden was founded in 2021 by Jack Lu, Zhuoxun Yin, Sidney Zhang, and Zhuojie Zhou. It grew quickly as a Solana NFT marketplace and then expanded outward: dedicated marketplaces for Bitcoin Ordinals and Runes, support for Ethereum and several EVM chains, and a multi chain wallet released in early 2024. It raised venture funding from investors including Paradigm and Sequoia Capital.
The ME token launched in December 2024 through the ME Foundation, with an initial claim distribution to prior platform users. In April 2025 the company announced the acquisition of Slingshot, a mobile first cross chain trading application, signaling a move beyond NFTs into general token trading.
In early 2026 the company narrowed sharply. It announced it would end support for its Bitcoin, Ordinals, Runes, and EVM marketplaces and sunset the multi chain wallet, concentrating on its Solana marketplace along with Packs and Lucky Buy, and on Dicey, a Solana settled iGaming product. Any description of Magic Eden as a broad multi chain NFT marketplace reflects an earlier period, so check current support directly.
The marketplace side works the way most on chain NFT venues do.
Listings and escrow Sellers list assets through on chain programs on Solana. Bids and listings are managed by marketplace contracts, and settlement happens on chain when a trade executes.
Fees and creator royalties Magic Eden charges a marketplace fee on trades. Royalty handling has varied over time and by collection, following broader industry shifts in how royalties are enforced.
Product surfaces beyond simple trading Packs and Lucky Buy sit on top of the marketplace, and Dicey extends the company into on chain gaming and wagering settled on Solana.
The token side works differently. ME is not consumed by trading. It is staked into a rewards program funded by decisions the company makes about how much revenue to direct toward it.
ME is a Solana SPL token with six decimals and a stated fixed supply of one billion, distributed over a multi year schedule. Published tokenomics allocate roughly half to the community across an initial claim and a longer term ecosystem reserve, with the remainder split between contributors, subject to a lockup, and investors and advisors.
Current utility centers on staking:
The specific revenue percentages, reward cadence, and eligible products have been revised more than once. Treat any fixed figure you read elsewhere as potentially stale and confirm the current parameters in Magic Eden's own documentation.
Historically the differentiator was breadth. Magic Eden was one of the few venues that made Bitcoin Ordinals and Runes tradable through the same interface used for Solana NFTs, and its wallet was an early attempt at holding Bitcoin, Solana, and EVM assets together.
Since the 2026 refocus, the differentiator is closer to depth on one chain plus an unusual product mix: a mature Solana marketplace alongside consumer gaming. That is a different bet from a pure marketplace, and it changes what the token is exposed to.
There are two separate questions here. The token inherits Solana's security: it is a standard SPL token, so ledger integrity comes from Solana validators and its proof of stake consensus, and custody is the holder's responsibility.
The platform is a different matter. Marketplace programs are on chain contracts subject to smart contract risk, while the front end, listings database, order routing, and rewards accounting are operated by the company. Governance operates inside a business the company controls, so token holder votes should not be assumed to carry the same standing as protocol level governance on a permissionless network.
Magic Eden is one of the few NFT era companies that survived the collapse in trading activity and kept building, and its token is an unusually direct experiment in tying a consumer crypto business's revenue to a tradable asset through staking, buybacks, and stablecoin distributions. It is also a case study in the risk of that model: when the business pivots, the token's story has to pivot with it.
ME is listed on a number of centralized exchanges and is traded on Solana decentralized exchanges and aggregators. Availability and pairs vary by platform and jurisdiction. Because the ME ticker is used by unrelated tokens elsewhere, confirm the Solana mint address before trading.

On chain, it trades through Solana venues such as Jupiter and Raydium. Listings change over time.
After purchase, ME can be held:
The Magic Eden wallet was discontinued, so anyone who previously used it should follow the company's migration guidance rather than assume continued access.
