ECOMI is the company behind VeVe, a mobile first app for buying, trading and displaying officially licensed digital collectibles and digital comics. OMI is the token ECOMI issues for use inside that ecosystem. VeVe distributes collectibles from major entertainment brands including Marvel, Star Wars, DC Comics and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, alongside independent publishers and artists, with augmented reality viewing and a virtual showroom for displaying a collection. OMI's role has shifted over time and is now centred on StackR, the marketplace where collectibles can be sold for OMI and OMI can be converted into VeVe's in app currency.

ECOMI is commonly described as founded in 2017 by a team led by chief executive David Yu, with Daniel Crothers and Joseph Janik named as co founders in company profiles and interviews. The company is generally reported as headquartered in Singapore. Its earliest product was the ECOMI Secure Wallet, a card format hardware wallet for offline key storage, which reflects the business before digital collectibles became the focus.
VeVe launched as the company's flagship application and became the centre of the business, signing licensing agreements with major entertainment rights holders. The OMI token originally launched as a GO20 token on the GoChain network and was later migrated to Ethereum as an ERC-20, with an Immutable X layer two deployment used for the collectibles themselves. Contract addresses also exist on Base and on Energi. Because much of this history sits in blog posts and interviews rather than a single maintained corporate page, treat specific dates as approximate unless confirmed against ECOMI's own announcements.
VeVe operates as a consumer app rather than a crypto interface. Collectibles are released in timed drops with defined edition sizes, collectors buy them with Gems, the in app currency, and can then trade them on the VeVe marketplace or display them in a showroom and in augmented reality. Rarity tiers and edition numbers drive collectibility in much the same way physical collectibles work.
The token layer sits alongside this. Collectibles are minted on Immutable X, an Ethereum layer two that provides fast confirmation and no gas fees for trades. OMI itself is held on Ethereum or bridged to Immutable X, and users historically bridged OMI into an OMI web wallet to participate in token linked rewards.
The most consequential recent change came in November 2025. From 19 November 2025, VeVe's terms changed so that Gems became an in app licensed product that is non transferable and non withdrawable, comparable to in app currencies on platforms such as Roblox, Twitch or Discord. Existing Gems converted one for one. From the same date, StackR became the route for converting between collectibles, OMI and Gems.
The VeVe app is the front end, covering drops, the market, the showroom and augmented reality features. Gems are the in app spending unit. The Master Collector Program is the loyalty layer, where collectors level up by completing objectives and earn benefits on the way to the top Master Collector rank. StackR, launched in April 2025, is the marketplace that lets users explore and trade licensed VeVe collectibles and, in VeVe's words, unlock real world value from them, by selling collectibles for OMI. Immutable X is the settlement layer for collectibles. VeVe Comics extends the same model to digital comic books.
OMI is a utility token, not a governance or revenue sharing asset. Its documented functions are receiving proceeds when a collectible is sold on StackR, and converting into Gems through a StackR self custody wallet at approximately the prevailing OMI to dollar market price, which can then be spent inside VeVe. OMI has also been used to earn rewards and boost standing in the Master Collector Program.
Supply is deflationary by design. Maximum supply is reported at 750 billion OMI, and a percentage of transaction fees is burned, permanently removing tokens from circulation. Earlier mechanisms burned a portion of OMI used for Gem conversion and tied burns to collectible drops and premium features. Anyone modelling OMI should read the current StackR documentation rather than older material, because the mechanics have been revised more than once.
The licensing position is the real asset. Very few blockchain based collectible platforms have secured direct agreements with rights holders of the scale of Marvel, Star Wars and DC, and those agreements are hard to replicate. The second distinguishing choice is that VeVe is built as a mainstream consumer app first. Users can buy with ordinary payment methods, never touch a seed phrase and still end up with collectibles that settle on chain. That lowers the barrier for collectors who care about the brands rather than the technology, which is a different audience from most crypto native NFT markets.
Compared with open NFT marketplaces, VeVe is a curated, closed platform where the operator controls supply, drops and pricing, which trades user freedom for licensing credibility and a consistent experience. Compared with Immutable, whose infrastructure VeVe uses, ECOMI is an application rather than a chain or platform provider. Compared with metaverse land and avatar projects such as The Sandbox or Decentraland, VeVe is about owning and displaying licensed objects rather than building a world. Compared with Enjin's tooling for game item issuance, VeVe is the end product rather than the toolkit. The trade off is that a licensed catalogue depends on renewing agreements the platform does not control.
Collectors use VeVe to buy licensed digital figures and comics, complete sets, display them in a showroom or in augmented reality and trade them on the marketplace. OMI is used to receive value when selling collectibles through StackR and to fund Gems for further purchases. Brands and artists use the platform as a distribution channel for licensed digital merchandise with controlled edition sizes. Long term collectors use the Master Collector Program to earn benefits from sustained activity.
OMI is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and inherits Ethereum's settlement security, with the Immutable X layer two providing scaling for collectible trades. Collectibles minted on Immutable X settle back to Ethereum. Account security inside VeVe is application level, meaning access is protected by ordinary app credentials rather than by a private key the user controls, which is a deliberate choice to make the product approachable. StackR introduces a self custody wallet for users who want direct control of OMI. Practically, this means two different security models coexist, and users should understand which one applies to a given holding.
The central risk is platform dependence. OMI's utility exists because VeVe and StackR give it one, so changes to the platform change the token, as the November 2025 Gems restructuring demonstrated. Gems are now non transferable and non withdrawable, so value moved into Gems cannot be moved back out. Licensing agreements are finite and renewable, and losing a major brand would affect the catalogue. Custody of in app collectibles sits largely with the platform rather than the user. Token supply is very large in absolute terms and burn mechanics have been revised repeatedly, so historical burn figures may not reflect current rules. Multiple contract deployments across Ethereum, Base and Energi mean holders must confirm which contract they hold. Consumer collectible demand is cyclical, and the sector saw a sharp decline after the 2021 peak.
ECOMI is one of the few sustained attempts to bring blockchain based collectibles to a mainstream audience through licensed intellectual property rather than crypto native art. It answers a specific question that the wider NFT sector never resolved cleanly: whether ordinary fans will collect digital objects when the blockchain is invisible and the brands are familiar. VeVe's catalogue and its multi year licensing relationships make it a meaningful data point on that question, and the platform's willingness to restructure its own token and currency mechanics shows what adapting a consumer product to a shifting market actually looks like.
OMI trades on a number of centralised exchanges and on decentralised exchanges on Ethereum, and is also acquired inside the ecosystem itself by selling licensed collectibles through StackR. Exchange listings and pairs change over time, so check current availability on the venue you use. Because OMI contracts exist on Ethereum, Base and Energi, confirm the contract address for the network you are trading on before buying, using the explorer links above.
OMI on Ethereum or Base can be held in any EVM compatible wallet, including MetaMask or Rabby, and hardware wallets from Ledger or Trezor provide offline key storage for larger balances. Using OMI inside the ecosystem requires a StackR self custody wallet, so plan for that if the intention is to convert to Gems rather than to hold. Note the one way nature of the current design: Gems cannot be withdrawn or transferred once acquired, so only convert what you intend to spend on the platform. Keep the rest in self custody and verify contract addresses rather than searching by ticker.
