KUB Coin is the native coin of KUB Chain, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain developed in Thailand by Bitkub Blockchain Technology. KUB pays for gas on the network, is staked by validators and delegators to secure consensus, and is used across the applications and services built on the chain.
The network was originally launched as Bitkub Chain and was renamed to KUB on 10 March 2025. The ticker did not change, so older material that refers to "Bitkub Coin" and newer material that refers to "KUB Coin" describe the same asset on the same network.
Because the chain is EVM compatible, developers can use Solidity, MetaMask, Hardhat, and the rest of the standard Ethereum tool set. KUB Mainnet uses chain ID 96 with the RPC endpoint at rpc.kubchain.io, and the network also runs a rollup-based Layer 2 with chain ID 9601.

KUB Chain is built and maintained by Bitkub Blockchain Technology Co., Ltd., a company within the Bitkub group. Bitkub Capital Group Holdings was co-founded in 2018 by Jirayut "Topp" Srupsrisopa, and the group is best known for operating one of Thailand's largest licensed digital asset exchanges. The KUB coin itself was introduced in 2021.
The 2025 rebrand from Bitkub Chain to KUB was presented as a step toward a more independent, globally oriented network identity, and was led by Passakorn Pannok, chief executive of Bitkub Blockchain Technology. The chain retains a close commercial relationship with the Bitkub exchange, but the network branding is now separate from the exchange branding.
Consensus has changed more than once. The chain began under Proof of Authority, moved to Proof of Staked Authority through the Erawan hard fork, and then moved to a permissionless Proof of Stake design through the Chaophraya upgrade, which removed the requirement for a validator to be approved by an existing authority.
Under the current Proof of Stake design, validator selection is driven by an on-chain staking contract rather than by a fixed operator list. KUB is deposited into the StakeManager contract, and for each selection period the protocol draws randomly against the total staked amount to produce the list of authorized validator addresses committed on chain for that span.
Running a pool node, which is the node type that accepts delegation, requires depositing at least 100,000 KUB. When a node is created, the staker receives an NFT that represents ownership of that node, including its configuration and its ValidatorShare contract. Node operators can set a commission rate, claim rewards, restake, and unstake through the same contract, and unstaking burns the ownership NFT and returns the deposit.
Two named upgrades shaped current behavior. The Lausanne release moved several protocol parameters on chain, allowed removed validators to reactivate themselves once they meet staking requirements again, and added partial unstaking so an operator can withdraw part of a stake while continuing to run. The Basel release cut block time from five seconds to three seconds, introduced system-owned failsafe supernodes, merged official nodes into a single pool node structure, and stopped new solo node registrations. Parameters continue to evolve, so the node documentation is the correct reference for current values.
KUB is used to pay gas on KUB Chain and on the KUB Layer 2 network, where it is also the fee currency. It is the staking asset for validators, and holders who do not want to run infrastructure can delegate KUB to a pool node and receive a share of rewards proportional to their stake.
Beyond fees and staking, KUB carries governance weight through delegation and the KIP process, and Bitkub has historically allowed KUB to be converted into trading fee credits on its exchange. Applications built on the chain also use KUB for payments, in-app settlement, and partner benefits.
The most distinctive part of KUB Chain is its token standard family. Instead of using ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155 unchanged, the chain defines KAP-20, KAP-721, KAP-1155, and KAP-22. The notable difference is an adminTransfer function that lets a token's own administrator move tokens back from an address in cases such as fraud or a compromised contract, subject to a legal determination.
This is a deliberate trade-off rather than a hidden feature. The documentation is explicit that KUB itself does not control that function, that the token developer decides who may call it, and that a developer can disable it entirely. It also does not apply to the KUB coin. Readers who value strict immutability should treat this as a design choice to evaluate on its merits.
Compared with BNB Chain, the closest structural comparison as an exchange-affiliated EVM Layer 1, KUB operates at a much smaller scale and concentrates on one national market rather than global retail volume. Compared with Cronos, another exchange-linked EVM chain, KUB has invested less in DeFi liquidity mining and more in enterprise tokenization and compliance-oriented token standards.
Security rests on the Proof of Stake validator set, the economic weight of KUB staked in the StakeManager contract, and slashing conditions that penalize validators for missed duties or misbehavior. Randomized validator selection weighted by stake is intended to prevent a fixed group from controlling block production, and the failsafe supernodes introduced in the Basel upgrade exist so that liveness does not depend on any single community operator.
KUB Chain is one of the few Layer 1 networks built explicitly around a regulated Southeast Asian exchange and its local business customers. Whether or not the compliance-first token standards appeal to a given user, the project is a concrete example of a national ecosystem chain that has moved through three consensus generations while keeping continuous mainnet operation, and it gives regional developers an EVM environment with fees and tooling suited to local applications.
