XION is a Layer 1 blockchain built by Burnt that hides crypto complexity (wallets, seed phrases, gas tokens) behind familiar sign-in and payment flows. In June 2026 the project rebranded to Verona, and the ticker changed from XION to VERONA at a 1:1 ratio. The rebrand was a name and ticker change only: the chain, contract addresses, balances, validators and the on-chain denomination (uxion) stayed the same. Under the new name the project positions itself as a verification layer where users prove facts about themselves once, with zero-knowledge proofs, and let AI agents and apps reuse those proofs without exposing the underlying data.
XION is developed by Burnt, a research and development company founded by Anthony Anzalone, known online as "Burnt Banksy", who became known in the NFT space for burning a physical Banksy print to demonstrate digital scarcity.

XION is built with the Cosmos SDK, uses CometBFT proof-of-stake consensus, runs smart contracts in CosmWasm, and connects to other Cosmos chains through IBC. On top of that base it adds what the team calls Generalized Abstraction, a set of protocol-level features:
Account abstraction (Meta Accounts) Accounts are smart contracts that can be controlled by email, passkeys or social logins, not only by a private key.
Signature abstraction Multiple authentication methods can sign for the same account.
Gas and fee abstraction Apps can sponsor fees so end users never need to hold the native token to transact.

Many chains offer account abstraction as an optional smart-contract layer. XION builds it into the protocol, so every account can be walletless and every app can hide gas. The Verona pivot adds a second distinguishing idea: rather than each app re-checking a user's identity or data, a fact is proven once and reused by any service or agent the user authorises.
The chain is secured by proof-of-stake validators running CometBFT consensus, with the token staked as collateral. User accounts are smart contracts, so their security also depends on the authenticators a user sets up and on audited contract code. Zero-knowledge proofs let apps verify claims without receiving the raw data.
XION is one of the most direct attempts to make blockchains invisible to ordinary users, and its Verona pivot is an early bet that verified, user-owned data will be a key input for AI agents.
