TARS AI (formerly TARS Protocol) is a Solana-based AI platform whose main product is an AI Agent Market: a launchpad where anyone can create an AI agent, give it a personality and tokenize it on a bonding curve. TAI is the platform's token, used as the liquidity pair for every agent token launched there, for fees, and for staking with governance points. It matters as one of the Solana projects trying to turn AI agents into tradable, on-chain assets.
The TARS website and docs do not name the founders. The site describes the team as 10 to 50 employees hiring remotely and says TARS is a grant recipient supported by the Solana Foundation. The tokenomics page references a Bybit IDO and airdrop at launch. Earlier descriptions framed TARS as AI-driven Web3 infrastructure and Blockchain-as-a-Service; the current docs focus on the AI Agent Market and the Sona and Akira frameworks.

Rather than tying agents to one framework, TARS aggregates several frameworks and several LLM providers inside one launchpad, and routes every agent token through TAI liquidity. The option to clone a personality from an X profile and the TEE-based hosting are also distinctive features in its docs.
TARS is an application on Solana, not a chain. Virtuals Protocol runs a similar agent launchpad with its own token as the pair, mainly on Base. AI Rig Complex (ARC) and ElizaOS are frameworks rather than marketplaces, and TARS lists them as options inside its market. Compared with Bittensor, which runs its own network for machine learning, TARS does not operate decentralized model training or inference.
TAI and agent tokens are SPL tokens secured by Solana's proof-of-stake network. Agent execution runs in TEEs according to the docs. We did not find a published third-party audit of the AI Agent Market contracts on the pages we reviewed, so treat contract security as undocumented.
