MX Token is the native utility token of MEXC, a centralized cryptocurrency exchange, rather than a blockchain asset with a network of its own. It is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum with a bridged deployment on Morph, and its function is tied entirely to the exchange: holding MX reduces trading fees, unlocks MEXC's token launch programs, and can be staked in exchange run products.
Official resources:
MX was issued by the exchange now known as MEXC, founded in April 2018 and registered in Seychelles. MEXC describes its origins in terms of a team drawn from quantitative trading and blockchain backgrounds rather than naming individuals, so the founders are not identified in official materials. MX was issued in 2018 under the platform's former MXC name, and the exchange rebranded to MEXC Global in June 2021. A December 2021 MX Token 2.0 proposal then redirected a large locked team allocation toward ecosystem use and committed 40 percent of quarterly platform profits to buying back and burning MX.
MX has no consensus mechanism, no validators and no protocol logic. It is an ERC-20 contract limited to transfers and approvals, and everything that gives it function happens inside MEXC's systems, where the exchange reads a balance to set fee tiers and event eligibility. A stated 40 percent of quarterly profit buys MX and sends it to a burn address, but that figure is not independently audited.
MX is a discount and access token rather than a claim on assets. MEXC documentation describes its uses as trading fee reductions, access to Launchpad, Launchpool, Kickstarter and M-Day, staking inside exchange products, and voting on some listing decisions. What it does not confer matters equally: it is not equity, and carries no dividend and no claim on reserves.
The most distinctive feature is the burn policy. Committing 40 percent of quarterly profit to buybacks, with a stated goal of holding circulation near a target level rather than reducing supply toward a cap, is stronger than most exchange tokens offer. MEXC also lists new assets often enough that MX works as early access.
BNB is the clearest contrast. It began as an exchange token but became the gas asset of a Layer 1 ecosystem, so its demand now comes largely from on chain activity. OKB, KuCoin Token, GateToken and Bitget Token sit closer, each offering fee discounts and launch participation on its home venue. MX is at the pure end of that spectrum, with no chain of its own and no use outside MEXC.
The contract is secured by Ethereum, so transfers and balances inherit its settlement guarantees, and the Morph deployment inherits that Layer 2's model. There is no protocol beyond the contract, so no consensus mechanism or slashing to evaluate. The relevant question is custodial: most MX utility requires the token to sit in a MEXC account, so the practical risk is exchange risk.
Exchange tokens are one of the oldest working business models in crypto, and MX is a clean example of the pure form: no chain, no protocol, just a token capturing a share of one venue's economics through fee discounts, access rights and profit funded burns.
MEXC itself is the primary market for MX and where its utility is realized. A few other centralized exchanges list it, and it trades on Ethereum decentralized exchanges against the contract address above. Because the token exists on both Ethereum and Morph, confirm which network a withdrawal will use.
MX is an ERC-20 token, so any Ethereum compatible wallet can hold it, and a hardware wallet suits long term balances. Add it by contract address rather than by ticker search. Because fee discounts, Launchpad participation and staking all require tokens in a MEXC account, most holders split their position between an exchange balance and self custody.
