Locus Chain is a Layer 1 blockchain design that aims to combine high throughput with a node footprint small enough to run on ordinary home PCs, and LOCUS is its token. Instead of one shared chain of blocks, it records transactions in a per-account DAG ledger, finalizes them with a proof-of-stake BFT consensus, and uses patented pruning and sharding techniques to keep storage and bandwidth low. Today LOCUS circulates as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, which the project plans to swap 1:1 into native coins once its own network is fully deployed.
The whitepaper states design targets of under 5% CPU use, network bandwidth within 5% of a 100 Mbps connection, an on-device ledger within 10 GB, and at least 4,000 transactions per second. These are targets, not measured mainnet results.
The token is issued by Locus Chain Foundation, which the whitepaper says is headquartered in Singapore; the website lists the entity as LOCUS CHAIN Foundation Pte. Ltd. The project states that its key developers previously built the Blueside Engine, described as Korea's first commercial game engine, and that their background is in synchronizing large volumes of game network traffic.
The whitepaper was first posted on May 6, 2024 and last revised in March 2025. Its core patents, for the DAG-AWTC ledger with BFT consensus and for verifiable pruning, carry dates of August 1, 2019, with further sharding and inter-shard patents filed in 2022. As of the April 2025 update, the whitepaper reports 8 domestic patents registered and 2 under review, plus overseas registrations in several countries. The public website references Testnet V1 and V2; a production mainnet launch date is not stated there.
DAG-AWTC ledger The Account-Wise Transaction Chain gives every account its own chain of transactions inside a directed acyclic graph. Because only the owning account can append to its chain, transactions from different accounts do not conflict and can be added in parallel.
PoS-BFT consensus with VRF committees Consensus is reached on periodic points in the DAG. Each round, a committee of proposers is chosen through a verifiable random function weighted by stake, which makes it hard to predict or target the participating nodes.
Verifiable pruning Old ledger data can be deleted locally while a skewed Merkle tree structure still lets nodes prove the validity of historical data through hashes.
Dynamic sharding Because the ledger is organized per account, shards can be resized and rebalanced. The project states that with N shards, the network load a node carries falls to roughly 2/N.

The network also uses non-transferable "Grants", an internal resource that nodes and guest accounts receive periodically, so small transactions can be sent without spending coins.
Fixed tokenomics: 7 billion LOCUS tokens were pre-mined and distributed through private sales, split as Contributors 57% (4 billion), Foundation Reserved 17%, Advisors and Partners 17% (6 to 24 month lock-ups) and Founders and Team 9% (2 year lock-up). After the native launch, up to 5 billion additional coins are to be mined over about 50 years, capping total supply at 12 billion.
Its distinguishing claim is the combination of a per-account DAG with verifiable pruning, so that high throughput does not force validators into ever-growing storage. The whitepaper notes that a 4,000 TPS chain would generate around 350 GB of data per day, and positions pruning and sharding as the answer that keeps nodes runnable on low-end hardware, including Raspberry Pi-class devices mentioned on the website.
The project targets serverless online games, real-time data exchange, smart city and IoT data verification, DeFi, NFTs and DEX applications, and has stated plans to license its technology for CBDC and IoT projects. Most of these are stated goals rather than documented deployments.
Security rests on stake-weighted BFT consensus with committees chosen by VRF each round, so an attacker cannot know in advance which nodes to target. The whitepaper also describes a mechanism for adding new signature algorithms, including a future switch or hybrid with post-quantum cryptography. Until the native network is live, LOCUS on Ethereum is secured by Ethereum itself. No independent protocol audit is referenced on the website.
Locus Chain is one of the few Layer 1 projects to put node lightness (a PC or IoT device running a validator in the background) at the center of its design, backed by a portfolio of registered patents. If the native network ships as described, it would test whether DAG ledgers plus verifiable pruning can deliver decentralization at high throughput.
LOCUS is currently an Ethereum ERC-20 token, so it can trade on centralized exchanges that list it and on Ethereum decentralized exchanges. Always verify the contract address 0xc64500dd7b0f1794807e67802f8abbf5f8ffb054 before buying.
Exchange listings change; confirm current LOCUS markets on each exchange's own site and check which network (Ethereum) the exchange uses for deposits and withdrawals.
Until the native swap, any Ethereum wallet that supports ERC-20 tokens, such as MetaMask or a hardware wallet, can hold LOCUS. Governance and swap procedures are planned to run through the foundation's official wallet, so follow the project's announcements at locuschain.com.
