DIMO (Digital Infrastructure for Moving Objects) is an open vehicle data network: drivers connect their cars, keep control of the data, and choose which apps may use it, while developers get one permissioned API for telemetry across 50+ vehicle brands. The DIMO token pays drivers weekly rewards for connecting vehicles and is the asset developers use to buy the credits that pay for data access. It matters because car data is usually locked inside each manufacturer's systems, and DIMO offers a user-consented, make-agnostic alternative.
The DIMO about page states that Yevgeny "Yev" Khessin co-founded DIMO in 2021 as CTO and became CEO in 2026. The company says DIMO was a 2026 MotorTrend Group Software-Defined Vehicle Award finalist. The current public site centres on a developer platform ("DIMO Build") with paid plans for production use, which we read as a shift in emphasis from the earlier driver rewards app toward selling data infrastructure (our inference, not a company statement).

Mint a vehicle identity Each car gets an on-chain Vehicle ID (an NFT) on Polygon. Hardware devices get their own Device IDs, each with a cryptographic wallet stored in a secure chip.
Grant permissions Owners grant developers access with SACD (Service Access Contract Definition) permissions, stored on-chain with an expiry and a signed document on IPFS. Access can be granted per session and revoked.
Use the data Developers query live and historical signals such as location, battery or fuel level, odometer, tire pressure and diagnostic codes through GraphQL and REST APIs, with SDKs for TypeScript, Python and C#.

DIMO exists on Ethereum and Polygon, bridged through Polygon's standard bridge, and a DIMO token contract on IoTeX also appears in public explorer listings. Maximum supply and emission schedule were not stated on the pages we opened.
DIMO combines three layers that usually sit with different companies: vehicle identity, owner consent and data access. Consent is enforced on-chain and every data access is recorded on a verifiable ledger, which DIMO positions as a way to meet GDPR and EU Data Act requirements.

Vehicle and device identities live on Polygon, with the DIMO token also on Ethereum. Devices carry an NXP SE050 secure element, and pairing a device to a car requires signatures from both the owner and the device.
