Ancient8 is a gaming-focused Ethereum Layer 2 network, and A8 is its governance and ecosystem token. According to the official documentation, Ancient8 Chain is "powered by the OP Stack and enhanced with Celestia": it runs as an optimistic rollup built with Optimism's open-source software, and uses Celestia for data availability to keep transaction costs low. The project matters because it grew out of a gaming community rather than a generic infrastructure team, and it bundles a chain, publishing tools and player-facing products aimed at bringing Web3 games to a wide audience.

As an optimistic rollup, Ancient8 settles to Ethereum, and the optimistic design is built around a challenge window (reflected in the roughly 7-day withdrawal period) during which invalid state claims are meant to be disputed.
