StraitsX USD, ticker XUSD, is a US dollar stablecoin issued by StraitsX, a Singapore based digital payments infrastructure company. Each token is intended to be backed one to one by reserve assets and redeemable for one US dollar. The smart contract was first deployed on Ethereum in February 2024, and the token has since been issued on BNB Chain and Solana as well. StraitsX positions XUSD as settlement money for cross border payments in and out of Southeast Asia rather than as a yield bearing instrument, and it sits alongside the company's Singapore dollar token XSGD and Indonesian rupiah token XIDR.
Official resources:
XUSD is a product of StraitsX, which grew out of the Singapore payments company Xfers. Xfers was founded in 2014 and went through Y Combinator in 2015. Company and press profiles name Tianwei Liu, Tianyao Liu, Victor Liew Jia Hao and Samson Leo as the founding group, with Tianwei Liu as chief executive. StraitsX became the digital asset arm of that business and issued XSGD, its Singapore dollar token, before turning to a US dollar product.
The XUSD contract went live on Ethereum in February 2024. On 17 July 2024 StraitsX announced that the Monetary Authority of Singapore had granted Major Payment Institution licences to StraitsX USD Issuance Pte. Ltd., StraitsX SGD Issuance Pte. Ltd. and StraitsX Payment Services Pte. Ltd., together with a licence variation approval for Xfers Pte. Ltd. In the same announcement the company said XUSD had been acknowledged by MAS as compliant with Singapore's stablecoin regulatory framework. Deployments on BNB Chain and Solana followed as the company extended distribution.
XUSD is a reserve backed stablecoin, not an algorithmic or crypto collateralised one. Approved customers deposit US dollars with the issuing entity, the issuer mints an equivalent amount of XUSD and sends it to the customer's wallet, and the process runs in reverse on redemption, with tokens burned when dollars are returned. The token itself is an ordinary transferable balance on each chain it lives on, so once issued it moves like any other token on Ethereum, BNB Chain or Solana without touching the issuer.
StraitsX states that reserves are held at a level of at least one hundred percent of outstanding tokens, that reserve cash management and custody run through a banking partnership with DBS Bank, and that reserve attestation reports from an ISCA listed auditing firm are published monthly. Those attestations are the primary evidence a holder has that the backing exists, and they are the document to read before treating XUSD as cash equivalent.
The StraitsX ecosystem around XUSD includes the issuing entities licensed by MAS, the StraitsX platform used by verified business and individual accounts to move between fiat and tokens, the monthly reserve attestation reports, and the token contracts themselves. The wider product family includes XSGD and XIDR, which lets a payments customer hold several regional currencies in the same on chain format. Because the tokens are deployed on Ethereum, BNB Chain and Solana, the surrounding component set also includes the decentralised exchanges and custody providers on each of those networks.
XUSD is a payment and settlement token. Its uses are holding a dollar denominated balance on chain, settling business to business payments without waiting for correspondent banking hours, funding and defunding accounts on trading venues, and acting as a quote asset in trading pairs and liquidity pools. It carries no governance rights, no staking function and no revenue share. Yield on the underlying reserves accrues to the issuer, not to the token holder, which is the standard arrangement for fiat backed stablecoins.
The distinguishing feature is regulatory grounding in Singapore combined with a Southeast Asian payments business behind it. Most large dollar stablecoins are built around United States or European distribution. XUSD is issued by an entity holding a Major Payment Institution licence from MAS and is designed to pair with regional currency tokens from the same issuer, which makes it more useful for ASEAN corridors than a generic dollar token would be. The multi chain issuance across Ethereum, BNB Chain and Solana also lets a payer choose the network with the lowest cost for a given transfer.
Compared with the largest dollar stablecoins, XUSD is a smaller, regionally focused instrument with fewer venue listings and thinner secondary liquidity. Compared with newer bank or fintech issued dollar tokens, its differentiator is the paired regional currency line, XSGD and XIDR, which no major competitor offers in the same way. The mechanical design is conventional: like other fiat backed tokens it depends entirely on an off chain reserve and an issuer that honours redemptions, which is a different trust model from over collateralised crypto stablecoins or synthetic dollar products.
Typical uses include cross border supplier payments and remittance settlement, treasury movement between Singapore and other markets, on and off ramping for exchanges and payment service providers, holding a dollar balance during volatile crypto market conditions, and providing liquidity in decentralised exchange pools. Businesses that already work with StraitsX for Singapore dollar rails can add dollar settlement without adopting a second provider.
Security has two separate layers. On chain, XUSD is a standard token contract whose safety rests on the underlying network, Ethereum, BNB Chain or Solana, and on the contract code published in the StraitsX tokens repository. Off chain, the value of the token rests on reserve management, banking custody with DBS Bank, licensing supervision by MAS and monthly third party attestations. The second layer is the one that matters most, because a stablecoin can be technically flawless on chain and still fail if reserves are mismanaged.
XUSD carries issuer and counterparty risk. If the issuing entity or its banking partner runs into trouble, the peg and redemption path are affected regardless of what the contract does. Regulated fiat stablecoins are commonly issued under terms that allow the issuer to freeze or seize balances when required by law enforcement or regulators, so holders should read the StraitsX terms rather than assume a token is bearer money. Secondary market liquidity is thinner than for the largest dollar tokens, which can widen spreads in stressed conditions. Attestation is not the same as a full audit, and holders should check the frequency and scope of the published reports. Finally, multi chain issuance means bridge and network specific risks apply to whichever deployment is used.
Most stablecoin activity is concentrated in a few large dollar tokens issued outside Asia. XUSD matters because it is an attempt to build regulated dollar settlement inside a major Asian financial centre, paired with local currency tokens, under a licensing regime that other jurisdictions are watching closely. Whether or not it gains scale, it is a useful reference point for how bank grade stablecoin issuance looks when a national regulator is directly involved.
StraitsX has stated that XUSD is available on decentralised venues such as Uniswap and on centralised exchanges including MEXC. Verified StraitsX account holders can also mint and redeem directly against US dollars through the StraitsX platform, which is the primary route for businesses. Exchange listings change over time, so check the current pairs on the venue you plan to use, and confirm you are trading the correct contract address for the chain you want.
XUSD is held in any wallet that supports the chain it was issued on. On Ethereum and BNB Chain that means standard EVM wallets such as MetaMask, Rabby or a Safe multisig, and on Solana it means wallets such as Phantom or Solflare. Hardware wallets from Ledger or Trezor add offline key storage for larger balances. Leaving tokens on an exchange means relying on that venue's solvency and security, which stacks a second counterparty on top of the issuer. Always verify the contract address before adding the token manually, since stablecoin tickers are widely imitated.
