MUX Protocol is a decentralized perpetual futures protocol suite that combines its own on-chain trading pools with an aggregator that routes leveraged positions to other perps venues such as GMX and gTrade. MCB is the protocol's main token: holders lock it to receive veMUX, which earns a share of trading fee income and MUX rewards. MUX matters as one of the few projects built around aggregating perpetual liquidity rather than only running a single exchange, so it sits at the intersection of perp DEXs and DEX aggregators.
MUX describes itself as a protocol suite offering a decentralized perpetual trading aggregator and a "P2Multi-Pool" liquidity model. According to the official documentation, traders can open leveraged long or short positions on crypto markets with up to 100x leverage, while liquidity providers supply the capital that traders trade against.
The suite has four main components:
The website lists deployments on Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism and BNB Chain, and states that MUX features are not available to US persons or other restricted persons.
The MCB token and the listing slug date back to the project's earlier identity as MCDEX; its original GitHub organization, mcdexio, is now labelled "legacy" and current code lives under mux-world. The documentation states that MUX V1 launched in August 2022 and that MUX V1 plus the aggregator had processed more than $48B in trading volume by September 2024, which led to the redesigned V3 protocol.
The docs refer to "MUX dev contributors" rather than naming individual founders, and no named core team is listed on the pages reviewed. Protocol contracts are governed by a DAO multi-sig.
MUX uses an oracle-based pool model instead of an order book. Trades execute at oracle prices, so the protocol advertises zero price impact on major markets, with liquidity providers taking the other side of trades.
Key mechanics described in the docs:
Smart position routing The aggregator compares "composite trading cost" across integrated protocols, including fees, spread, price impact, maintenance margin and available liquidity, and routes the order to the cheapest suitable source. Large orders can be split across several venues in one trade.
Leverage boosting When an underlying protocol caps leverage below what the trader wants, the aggregator can add extra margin from its own pool, raising effective leverage up to 100x and lowering the liquidation threshold. It charges a boost fee and an hourly boost funding fee for this.
Position containers Each aggregated position is held in its own smart contract container, which isolates risk between users.
Multiplexing layer A dark oracle and a broker module run off-chain to deliver fast pricing and cross-chain liquidity management. The docs are explicit that this layer is currently off-chain and is planned to be decentralized later.
MCB is the transferable token in the system. Its documented uses:
Total Protocol Income x (85% x POR + 15%) for veMUX, where POR is the protocol-owned liquidity rate, plus 100% of referral rebates earned from integrated protocols.Supply facts from the tokenomics page: the MCB supply cap is 4,803,144, of which 1,000,000 is reserved for future vesting of MUX into MCB. MUX has a cap of 1,000,000 with a daily emission of 1,000, and it vests into MCB linearly over one year. Raising either cap requires a passed governance proposal and a 14-day timelock. MCB exists on Ethereum, Arbitrum (same contract address 0x4e352cF164E64ADCBad318C3a1e222E9EBa4Ce42) and BNB Chain, but staking happens on Arbitrum.
Most perp DEXs compete to hold liquidity in their own pools. MUX instead positions itself as a routing layer on top of several perp venues while also running its own pools. The leverage boost feature, where the aggregator tops up margin so a trader can exceed an underlying venue's limit, is a distinctive design. V3's multi-pool setup also lets LPs choose collateral and directional exposure rather than holding a single blended basket.
The audit page lists audits of the V3 contracts by Guardian, of the aggregator contracts by SolidProof, and of the V1 contracts by CertiK. General protocol changes run through a 48-hour timelock, while emergency actions (such as a pause during a security incident) can be executed immediately by the DAO multi-sig. A bug bounty page is also published.
Perpetual futures are among the most used DeFi products, and liquidity is spread across many venues and chains. MUX is an early attempt to aggregate that liquidity the way spot DEX aggregators do for swaps, and MCB gives holders a direct claim on part of the fees that activity generates.
The MUX documentation points to 1inch on Arbitrum as a place to acquire MCB, and the token otherwise trades on decentralized venues on Arbitrum, Ethereum and BNB Chain. Always confirm the contract address from the official docs before swapping, and note that staking requires MCB on Arbitrum.
MCB is a standard ERC-20 (and BEP-20 on BNB Chain) token, so any EVM wallet such as MetaMask, Rabby or a hardware wallet like Ledger can hold it. If you plan to lock MCB for veMUX, keep it on Arbitrum; the docs recommend cBridge or the official Arbitrum bridge for moving it. Contract addresses can be checked on Arbiscan and Etherscan.
