HAI is the utility token of the Hacken ecosystem, built around Hacken, a blockchain security firm that audits smart contracts and offers penetration testing and compliance services. The token links those business-to-business security services with consumer-facing programs: staking to back audit quality, access to vetted early-stage deals, research rewards and community governance. It matters because its utility is tied to an operating Web3 security auditor rather than to a standalone protocol.
HAI describes itself on its official page as the core token of the HAI Group, designed to establish "Verifiable Trust" in Web3. Its stated pillars are real yield, federation access, research-to-earn, and tokenized ownership.
HAI exists on several networks: VeChain, where the token originally launched, plus Ethereum, BNB Chain and Base. The EVM contracts listed for the token (for example on Etherscan and BaseScan) return the on-chain name "HAI-OFT", which we read as consistent with the LayerZero OFT relaunch described below.
HAI grew out of Hacken's earlier ERC-20 token, HKN. In a September 2019 announcement, Hacken said it would migrate from Ethereum to the VeChainThor blockchain, converting HKN into VIP180 HAI tokens at a ratio of 1 HKN to 15 HAI, and launch a consumer cybersecurity app called HackenAI.
In March 2023, Hacken published updated HAI tokenomics that refocused the ecosystem on a public-goods community contributing to Web3 trust, transparency and security.
In June 2025, after an exploit affecting HAI on EVM chains, Hacken published an infrastructure update announcing a fresh HAI token on Ethereum, BNB Chain and Base using LayerZero's Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard. The update said legitimate pre-incident holders would be restored 1:1 from a snapshot, claims would run only through the official hAI App, and HAI on VeChain would stay on its existing contract because it was not affected.
The founders of Hacken are not named on the HAI pages we could open, so we do not list them here.
The EVM version of HAI follows the OFT model: one total supply across chains, with tokens burned on the source chain and minted on the destination chain when moved. According to the June 2025 update, the contracts use OpenZeppelin upgradeable proxies with multi-signature control, pause and blacklist functions, and LayerZero verifier networks for cross-chain messages. The initial relaunch supply was minted on Base and distributed through a Merkle-tree claim contract.
Most security tokens sit on top of a scanning tool or a bug-bounty marketplace. HAI instead ties staking to the reputation of human audits: stakers effectively take a position on whether an audited project stays safe, with yield paid from the auditor's side. That creates a financial signal around audit quality, which is unusual in the sector.
HAI is a token, not a blockchain. Compared with related security projects:
Security depends on the chain each version lives on: VeChainThor for the VIP180 token, and Ethereum, BNB Chain and Base for the OFT version. The 2025 relaunch explicitly moved to multi-signature admin control and removed custom bridges in favor of LayerZero messaging, with the team monitoring admin changes, minting events and transfers to flagged addresses.
Web3 security failures cost users heavily, and HAI is an attempt to give a community a financial stake in audit quality. Whether or not that model scales, it is a concrete example of a token linked to a real service business.
The official HAI page lists LetsExchange, Gate.io, MEXC, KuCoin and Uniswap on Base as places to trade HAI. Always confirm which network and contract a venue supports before depositing.
Gate.io, MEXC and KuCoin are named on the official HAI page. LetsExchange and Uniswap on Base are also listed there.
EVM versions of HAI can be held in wallets such as MetaMask or Rabby and on hardware wallets that support Ethereum, BNB Chain and Base. VeChain HAI requires a VeChain-compatible wallet such as VeWorld. The hAI App is used for official claims and ecosystem features.
