Telos launched its mainnet in December 2018 as a community-created Antelope chain, started by block producers and developers who wanted an EOSIO network without the concentrated token distribution of the original EOS launch. There was no venture sale of the genesis supply, and the launch imposed an account-level cap intended to limit whale accumulation. The changes that define the network today came later. Querying the eosio.token contract's currency stats for TLOS on September 11, 2026 returned a max_supply field of 1,000,000,000.0000 TLOS, issued by the eosio account. That is a real declared ceiling on the token contract, not a marketing figure. Issued supply sits well below it, and new TLOS is still created as producer and inflation rewards, so TLOS is inflationary up to that documented ceiling rather than fixed-supply.
Two things stand out. First, the dual environment. Telos does not run the EVM as a separate sidechain with its own validators; it runs it on the same producers and the same finality as the Antelope chain underneath, giving EVM users sub-second blocks and consistent fees without a second security budget.
Second, the fee model on Zero. Staking for CPU and NET instead of bidding for gas means an application can offer genuinely free transactions to end users by staking resources on their behalf. That is structurally different from subsidizing gas on a fee-market chain, and it is why Telos has attracted high-frequency consumer applications. The Reth migration is worth noting too, as a case of a smaller chain replacing bespoke infrastructure with a maintained upstream client.

Telos security comes from its elected block producer set under delegated proof of stake, with the two thirds plus one signing requirement and a rotation schedule that deactivates producers who miss too many blocks. Telos EVM inherits that security because it settles on Zero. Cross-chain TLOS is a separate matter: bridged TLOS depends on LayerZero messaging security and on the configuration of the omnichain contracts, not on Telos consensus.
Telos is a rare example of a chain that has kept shipping through several market cycles without abandoning its original design choices. The staked resource model remains one of the few production alternatives to per-transaction gas auctions, and running a Reth-based EVM on an Antelope base is an unusual and practical architecture. Its bet on scalable zkSNARK privacy is ambitious, but the network underneath it is live, measurable, and actively maintained.
