Jupiter is a decentralized trading application built on Solana. It began as a DEX aggregator that splits and routes a swap across Solana's automated market makers to find a better price than any single venue would give, and has since grown into what the team calls a "DeFi superapp" covering spot trading, perpetual futures, lending, staking, portfolio tracking and prediction markets. JUP is the governance token of the Jupiter DAO. The application is non-custodial, so users trade from their own Solana wallet.
Official resources:
Jupiter launched in 2021, built by a team led by a founder who goes publicly by the pseudonym "Meow". It ran for more than two years without a token, aggregating Solana liquidity for other applications and wallets before issuing JUP. The token launched on 31 January 2024 in the first "Jupuary" airdrop to historical users, with further January distributions committed for later years. Jupiter has since absorbed other Solana products, including a majority stake in the mobile trading app Moonshot and the portfolio tracker SonarWatch. In January 2025 the team burned 3 billion JUP from its own allocation, cutting the maximum supply from 10 billion.
When a user requests a swap, Jupiter's routing engine queries the liquidity pools and order books available on Solana, then builds a route that may split the order across several venues and intermediate tokens. The route is returned as a single Solana transaction the user signs, and Jupiter does not hold funds during the process. Its perpetual futures product is commonly described as pool-backed rather than order-book based: liquidity providers deposit into a shared pool that takes the other side of trader positions and earns a share of fees.
JUP governs the Jupiter DAO. Holders stake JUP for voting power and, in return for voting actively, can receive Active Staking Rewards. Jupiter has committed to directing roughly half of its on-chain revenue to open-market JUP buybacks through the Litterbox Trust, and the DAO has voted to burn tranches accumulated that way.
Jupiter is a default routing layer for a large share of Solana trading, including flow that originates in other wallets and applications embedding its API. Most DEX tokens represent a single pool of liquidity, whereas Jupiter represents the layer deciding where liquidity gets used.
Compared with a pure aggregator such as 1inch Network, Jupiter has moved much further into owning end-user products rather than only routing. Compared with an AMM such as Raydium, Uniswap or PancakeSwap, Jupiter does not primarily operate its own spot pools, it consumes them. Compared with an order-book venue like Hyperliquid, it builds on a general-purpose chain rather than running its own.
Traders use Jupiter for a single best-effort price across fragmented Solana liquidity. Wallets and developers integrate its quote and swap APIs so users never leave the host application. Longer-term holders use limit and recurring orders, staking and lending.
Jupiter inherits settlement security from Solana's proof-of-stake consensus. Its own products are on-chain programs, so the relevant risks are program correctness, oracle inputs for leveraged products, and route construction. Because the interface is non-custodial, keys stay in the user's wallet and the main custody risk is signing a malicious transaction rather than a platform holding funds.
Smart contract risk applies to every product Jupiter runs, and the leveraged and lending surfaces add liquidation and oracle risk. Revenue-funded buybacks depend on trading activity continuing, so they are not a guaranteed floor. Jupiter is also exposed to Solana itself, since congestion or downtime affects all of its products at once.
Its routing share makes it a useful proxy for Solana trading demand, and its revenue-linked token mechanics are frequently cited as a template by other DeFi projects.
JUP trades on many major centralized exchanges and on Solana decentralized exchanges, including Jupiter's own interface. Availability differs by jurisdiction and venue, so confirm the exchange lists the pair you want.
JUP is an SPL token and can be held in any Solana-compatible wallet, such as Phantom, Solflare or Backpack. Staking JUP for governance requires a self-custodied wallet.

Jupiter’s Lend v2 recycles lending capital into DEX liquidity on Solana, tying yield directly to swap flow and deepening the pairing of credit and trading.

The new Lend v2 product turns deposits and borrowed assets into trading liquidity, tying higher returns to whether Jupiter’s router can send enough swap flow to the new vaults.
