FUNToken is a gaming and online casino token that originated with FunFair, an Ethereum project built to run provably fair casino games on chain. FUN is an ERC-20 asset on Ethereum, paired with a bridged token called XFUN on Polygon that handles high frequency, gas free in game transactions. The project now positions FUN as a currency across casual games, casino style titles and connected apps, with a buyback and burn policy funded by platform revenue.
Official resources:
The token was created by FunFair Technologies, founded by Jez San, Oliver Hopton and Jeremy Longley. Its token generation event ran in June 2017; the first presale phase hit its cap within hours and total contributions ran to roughly 26 million dollars, with participants including Pantera Capital and BlockTower Capital. FunFair's technical claim was Fate Channels, a state channel design moving gameplay off chain while keeping settlement verifiable. From 2021 onward, stewardship shifted to a group operating as the FUNToken team, which broadened the focus from casino software licensing to a wider gaming ecosystem. Exchanges have since listed the asset under both FUN and FUNTOKEN tickers without any migration.
FUN is a conventional ERC-20 token, easy to trade and custody but expensive for small in game transfers. The project's answer is a two token structure: FUN bridges one to one into XFUN on Polygon, where costs are negligible and the team describes transfers as gas free. Gameplay and rewards run in XFUN, and users bridge back to FUN for mainnet liquidity.
The supply policy is deflationary rather than fixed. The project states that a set share of net gaming revenue, commonly cited as 50 percent, is used to buy FUN on the open market and permanently burn it on a quarterly cadence. Burn amounts therefore depend on actual revenue and should be verified on chain rather than assumed.
FUN and its XFUN counterpart function as the in ecosystem currency: wagering, rewards, winnings and feature access across the game portfolio. Historically FUN also served the FunFair casino platform for licence fees, affiliate payouts and developer settlement. The project has also described staking programmes and a community grant fund with holder voting. Terms here have changed repeatedly, so treat specific rates as subject to revision.
Its longevity is unusual. FUN dates to the 2017 cycle and has kept a single contract through a change of stewardship and of strategy, which is rare for that vintage. The revenue linked burn is also a more concrete supply mechanism than a fixed emissions schedule, provided the revenue is real and verifiable.
Most blockchain gaming tokens are tied to a single studio or title. FUN is positioned as a currency across a portfolio, split between a mainnet asset and a low cost play token. Against newer gambling tokens it has a longer operating history but a heavier marketing footprint, which makes independent verification of usage claims more important than usual.
FUN inherits Ethereum's security as a standard ERC-20 contract, and XFUN inherits Polygon's. The bridge between them is an application layer component and a distinct trust assumption from either chain. FunFair's Fate Channels approach let game outcomes be settled and disputed on chain rather than trusted to a server, though how far current titles use it should be checked against present documentation.
Online gambling is heavily regulated and rules differ sharply by jurisdiction, a direct business risk. Much of the public information about the project is promotional, so usage, player numbers and revenue claims warrant independent verification on chain. Burn size depends on revenue and is not guaranteed, and the bridge adds a failure surface.
FUN is one of the few surviving assets from the first wave of on chain casino projects, and it shows both the appeal and the difficulty of that model: verifiable fairness is achievable, but distribution, licensing and regulation decide whether it reaches players.
FUN is listed on a number of centralised exchanges and trades on Ethereum decentralised exchanges, with some venues using the FUNTOKEN ticker. Check which chain a listing settles on, since FUN and XFUN are different tokens on different networks.
FUN is a standard ERC-20 token held in any Ethereum wallet such as MetaMask, Rabby or Trust Wallet, with hardware wallet support through the same interfaces. XFUN requires a wallet configured for Polygon. Verify the network before every transfer, since cross network mistakes are not recoverable.
