Meteora is a liquidity infrastructure protocol on Solana that builds the pool designs other applications launch and trade on. Rather than running an exchange front end, it ships on-chain programs: a bin-based concentrated liquidity market maker, a constant-product AMM with configurable fee curves, and a bonding curve that graduates launches into a live pool. MET is the protocol token, distributed at a token generation event on 23 October 2025.
Official resources:
Meteora succeeds Mercurial Finance, which shipped Solana's first multi-token stable pools. A first-person account on the Meteora blog in October 2025 describes the transition: the author joined two collaborators known only by the handles Meow and Siong, Mercurial wound down around the FTX collapse, and the team restarted as Meteora. Team members are not identified by legal name in the documentation or blog.
The Dynamic Liquidity Market Maker, or DLMM, splits a price range into discrete bins. Liquidity inside a bin trades at one price, so a swap staying within a bin has no slippage, and a position placed in one bin behaves natively like an on-chain limit order. DAMM v2 is a constant-product pool with NFT positions, optional concentrated ranges and anti-sniper controls, with fee modes based on elapsed time, token valuation and rate limiting.
MET is a standard SPL token on Solana with a total supply of one billion. A direct read of the mint account shows the mint authority revoked and no freeze authority set, so no further tokens can be created and balances cannot be frozen. The allocation gives 20 percent to Mercurial holders and reserve, 15 percent to an LP stimulus plan, 3 percent to Jupiter stakers, 18 percent to the team and 34 percent to a Meteora reserve, with team and reserve tokens on a one-month cliff then 72 months of vesting to October 2031.
Bin-based liquidity with a native limit order primitive is the technical distinction, but the practical one is that Meteora treats a launch as a market design problem. Decaying fee schedulers, rate limiters, protected pre-activation windows and permanent liquidity locks are all parameters a launch team sets in advance.
Raydium pairs concentrated liquidity with its own launch product, Orca focuses on a clean provider experience, and Jupiter is mainly an aggregator and perpetuals venue. Meteora sits underneath much of that activity as the pool layer, differentiating on launch-time configurability rather than routing or interface.
Program identifiers are published for every program, and several are open source, including DAMM v2, the Dynamic Bonding Curve and Presale Vault. DLMM and Alpha Vault are listed as not open source, a meaningful transparency gap for the flagship product. Audit reports are published per program, and a bug bounty runs with OOO Security.
Concentrated liquidity concentrates loss as well as fees: a position in a narrow range around a moving price can be fully converted into the weaker asset and needs active management. Launch pools add the risk that the underlying token has no history, and the closed-source status of DLMM limits independent review of the most used program. Team and reserve allocations represent 52 percent of supply vesting through 2031.
Solana's launch culture depends on liquidity appearing at the moment a token starts trading, and on that liquidity being structured so early buyers are not simply extracted from. Meteora has become the layer where those parameters are set, giving it influence over market quality well beyond its own interface.
MET trades on Solana decentralized exchanges and aggregators, and the documentation notes initial liquidity sat in a Meteora DAMM v2 pool. Confirm the mint address against the official documentation before swapping.
MET is a standard SPL token, so any Solana wallet can hold it, including hardware wallets. Tokens inside a liquidity position are represented by a position account or NFT rather than a free balance, so check whether holdings are deposited before assuming they are transferable.
