Keeta is a layer 1 blockchain built for payments and settlement, not general purpose computation. It connects existing payment networks and other chains, with compliance features such as identity certificates and transfer permissions built into the base protocol. Keeta reports settlement in roughly 400 milliseconds and a target of up to 10 million transactions per second, project figures rather than audited results. KTA pays fees, is staked, and votes.
Official resources:
Keeta was founded in 2022 by Ty Schenk, who is chief executive. Its best known backer is Eric Schmidt, the former Google chief executive, whom Keeta names as an investor on its site. The KTA token launched as an ERC-20 on Base in March 2025, ahead of the network, and mainnet followed on 22 September 2025, after which the Base token began migrating to the native asset. Keeta publishes little about the rest of its team.
Keeta's ledger is a directed acyclic graph rather than a linear chain, so independent operations process in parallel. The whitepaper describes it as cloud native, scaling with node hardware, and it removes the shared mempool that normally serialises transaction intake. Consensus uses delegated proof of stake: a client sends a proposed block to several representatives, which return temporary votes, then verifies those votes, receives permanent votes, and broadcasts the validated block.
KTA is the fee asset, the asset staked by representatives and delegators, and the governance token, with stakers rewarded for backing representatives that validate correctly. Because the throughput ambition rests on very low per transaction cost, fee revenue per transaction is small by design, so stake security is the more important role.
Compliance is native rather than optional. Most chains treat identity verification and transfer restrictions as an application concern, so a regulated issuer enforces rules in its own contract and hopes no path around them exists. Certificates, identity profiles and permission rules sit in the protocol, so eligibility is enforced at ledger level. That is a bid for institutional settlement, not open ended smart contract development.
XRP and Stellar occupy a similar space as payment ledgers with fast settlement and asset issuance, and both have far longer histories. Nano shares the account based, parallel ledger lineage but has no compliance layer. Hedera targets enterprise use through a governing council rather than open staking. Keeta's differentiator is combining a DAG ledger with protocol level identity and permissioning, though it is unproven at sustained volume.
The network targets cross border payments and remittances, settlement between banks and payment providers, stablecoin issuance, tokenization of assets where holder eligibility must be enforced, and bridging between fiat and on chain assets.
Representatives stake KTA, validate proposed blocks and are backed by delegators, and a transaction is accepted only once it collects enough votes. The two phase voting process is intended to prevent conflicting blocks from being confirmed. High throughput sits in tension with a broadly distributed operator set, since performance depends on node hardware.
Keeta is early. Mainnet launched in September 2025, and headline performance figures come from project run tests rather than production load. Institutional adoption has not been publicly demonstrated at scale. Supply unlocks under a vesting schedule with large reserve allocations, and the token migration is an operational process users must follow carefully.
Regulated finance has been slow to settle on public chains partly because compliance obligations do not map cleanly onto permissionless transfers. Keeta makes eligibility a ledger primitive, so an issuer relies on the network rather than its own contract logic. That trade against open composability is debatable, but it answers the objection institutions actually raise.
KTA trades on several centralized exchanges and on decentralized exchanges on Base, where the original contract lives. Check which version a venue quotes and whether it supports withdrawal to the native network, and verify any contract address against the documentation.
The Base version of KTA sits in any Ethereum compatible wallet configured for Base, and such wallets generally pair with a hardware wallet. Native balances need a wallet supporting KeetaNet directly; the documentation lists clients and explains setting a representative. Confirm the destination network before sending.
