What Is Bedrock (BR)?

Bedrock is a Bitcoin and Ethereum yield protocol that issues liquid staking and restaking tokens. A user deposits an asset and receives a liquid token that stays usable in decentralized finance while the deposit earns rewards. Its assets are uniBTC, uniETH, uniIOTX and brBTC, all non rebasing, so balances stay constant and value accrues in the token. BR is the governance token of Bedrock DAO, issued on BNB Chain with a total supply of one billion, and locking BR produces veBR.

Who Founded Bedrock? (History)

The team behind Bedrock is not individually identified in official documentation, which presents the protocol under the Bedrock Technology name rather than naming founders. Third party profiles describe it as built with the staking provider RockX, but Bedrock's own materials do not confirm that. The timeline is clearer: the docs date the Ethereum validator cluster to early 2023, followed by uniETH, uniBTC and uniIOTX. brBTC arrived in late 2024, and BR and Bedrock DAO followed through an airdrop and a token sale on Binance Wallet in March 2025.

How Bedrock Works

A deposit flows into a modular set of contracts rather than one vault. For ETH, an EigenPod manager holds restaking positions while a validator cluster runs the validators; for Bitcoin, wrapped BTC backs uniBTC, used with Babylon staking and connected restaking venues. Bedrock 2.0 adds a vault layer: a Yield Vault takes capital through uniBTC and deploys it into one strategy run by a vetted counterparty. The docs group vaults into four categories, including lending and credit, delta neutral and DeFi native liquidity.

BR Token Utility

BR is described as the core utility token covering incentives, governance and liquidity provisioning, and it is freely tradable and used in lending and liquidity pools. Governance runs through veBR: BR is locked at a one to one ratio, and veBR is non transferable, with weight scaling by lock length and granting votes plus boosted rewards. Voting is organized around gauges, so holders direct incentive emissions toward specific pools, and epochs include a seasonal reset so voting power is not locked in permanently.

What Makes Bedrock Unique?

Most liquid staking protocols specialize in one asset. Bedrock's design point is multi asset coverage with Bitcoin at the center, and brBTC folds several wrapped Bitcoin representations into one instrument. Minting is gated by an oracle check that reserves back the supply.

How Bedrock Differs from Similar Projects

Bedrock competes mainly on the Bitcoin side, where there is no native staking and yield must come from restaking systems such as Babylon or from external strategies. Against simpler restaking tokens it has moved toward curated vaults with named counterparties, closer to structured products than to a wrapper.

How Bedrock Is Secured

The contracts are open source and audited by firms including PeckShield and Blocksec, with published reports for uniETH, uniBTC and brBTC and a commitment to periodic re-audits. Reserve backing for uniBTC is verified through Chainlink Proof of Reserve, and Secure Mint extends that to an in mint check, so new supply cannot be created unless reserves support it.

Risks and Considerations

Bedrock has been exploited. In September 2024 a vulnerability allowed uniBTC to be minted against ETH and roughly two million dollars was drained, with losses concentrated among decentralized exchange liquidity providers; the protocol said the Bitcoin backing uniBTC was unaffected and committed to a post mortem and reimbursement. Restaking layers risk, since the wrapped asset, the contracts, the protocol beneath and any bridge each add exposure, and vaults add counterparty risk. Receipt tokens can trade away from their backing under stress, and several Bedrock 2.0 components remain under development.

Why Bedrock Matters

Bitcoin is the largest crypto asset and the one with the least native yield. Protocols that put Bitcoin to work without handing custody to an opaque counterparty address a real problem, and Bedrock publishes what makes that assessable: named strategies, auditors and oracle verified reserves.

The canonical contract is on BNB Chain at 0xff7d6a96ae471bbcd7713af9cb1feeb16cf56b41, with deployments also recorded on Ethereum, Base and Berachain. BR is listed on several centralized exchanges and trades on BNB Chain decentralized exchanges from a self custodied wallet. Verify the address against the Bedrock DAO tokenomics page first.

Storage Options After Purchase

Any wallet supporting BNB Chain or the other deployment networks can hold BR, with a hardware wallet preferable for larger amounts. Governance requires locking BR into the veBR escrow contract, which commits the tokens for the chosen duration.
