Blur is an Ethereum NFT marketplace and aggregator built for active traders rather than casual collectors, and BLUR is the ERC-20 token that governs it. The marketplace charges no marketplace fee, sweeps listings across multiple venues at once, and exposes portfolio analytics, collection-wide bidding and NFT-backed lending in a single interface.
The design premise is straightforward: NFT trading at volume is a latency and tooling problem. Blur optimized for execution speed, bulk actions and depth of order flow, then distributed its token to the traders who supplied that flow.
Official sources:
Blur was created by a developer who operated publicly under the pseudonym Pacman and later revealed himself as Tieshun Roquerre. The project raised a seed round led by Paradigm and launched its marketplace in October 2022.
Its growth strategy was aggressive and effective. Blur ran a series of airdrop seasons, beginning with Care Packages distributed to NFT traders across all marketplaces during late 2022, and launched the BLUR token in February 2023. Bidding and listing incentives pulled a large share of Ethereum NFT volume onto the platform within months. In May 2023 the team shipped Blend, a peer-to-peer NFT lending protocol built with Paradigm. Later reward seasons were tied to Blast, an Ethereum Layer 2 network launched by the same founder.
The honest current picture is that NFT trading activity across the whole sector is far below its 2021 and 2022 levels, and Blur's volumes reflect that contraction rather than a problem specific to the platform.
Listings and orders settle through Blur's own exchange contracts The marketplace runs its own on-chain exchange, currently in a second version, alongside an aggregator that routes purchases to other marketplaces when the best price sits elsewhere.
Collection bidding uses pooled ETH Rather than bidding on one specific token, traders can bid against an entire collection at a given price level. A dedicated bid pool contract holds the ETH, and any holder of a qualifying NFT can accept. This creates something much closer to a live order book than the traditional listing-and-offer model.
Sweeping and sniping are first-class actions Buying many items in one transaction, and reacting quickly to reveals, are core features rather than add-ons.
Blend adds leverage without oracles Blend matches lenders and borrowers directly. Loans have no fixed expiry and no oracle dependency, and rates are set by the market. When a lender wants out, a Dutch auction seeks a replacement, and the position is only liquidated if no one takes it at any rate.

Governance holds the power to set a marketplace protocol fee of up to 2.5 percent, set lending fee rates for lenders and borrowers, and issue treasury grants.
Voting is proportional to tokens held or delegated, and a holder must delegate their balance to an address, including their own, before their voting weight registers.
Three billion BLUR were minted at genesis with a release schedule spanning four to five years: 51 percent to community members, 29 percent to past and future core contributors with four-year vesting, 19 percent to investors with four-year vesting, and 1 percent to advisers with longer vesting and cliffs. Of the community allocation, 12 percent was claimable by NFT traders and creators in the initial distribution, leaving 39 percent for the community treasury to distribute through grants and incentive programs. The Incentive Committee controls a budget of up to 300 million BLUR, extendable by governance vote.
Blur's real innovation was market microstructure rather than a new asset type. Collection-wide bidding backed by pooled ETH turned an illiquid listings board into something with two-sided depth, which is why traders could enter and exit size that was previously impossible. Blend then let those positions be financed without an oracle, using Dutch auction refinancing instead of a liquidation price. Together they made NFTs behave more like a tradable market and less like a classifieds page. The token distribution was also unusually precise, weighting rewards toward traders who provided genuine liquidity, particularly tight bids, rather than toward anyone who simply transacted.
Blur's contracts are on Ethereum and inherit its settlement guarantees. The marketplace, the second-generation exchange and Blend have each been through published third-party audits, linked from the Foundation documentation. Governance is deliberately slow: a proposal must sit on the research forum for at least seven days, pass a 14-day Snapshot vote with at least 30 million BLUR in favor, then pass a 14-day on-chain Tally vote with a quorum of 120 million BLUR, and finally wait a two-day execution delay. The Safety Committee can block proposals that skipped those steps.
Blur demonstrated that NFT markets respond to the same forces as any other market: better execution, tighter spreads and financing attract volume. It reframed NFT trading around order flow and liquidity provision rather than browsing and collecting, and Blend showed that oracle-free lending against illiquid assets is workable in production. Whether or not NFT volumes recover, those mechanism designs are now part of the standard toolkit, and the platform remains one of the clearest examples of a token distribution used deliberately as a market-making incentive.
BLUR is listed on a range of centralized exchanges and is tradable on Ethereum decentralized exchanges such as Uniswap. Availability and pairs vary by jurisdiction.

Pairs such as BLUR/USDT and BLUR/USD are typical where supported.
Remember that voting weight only registers after delegation, so simply holding BLUR in a wallet does not make it count in governance.
