In April 2021, at the Summit of Leaders on Climate (a virtual meeting of 40 countries promoted by American President Joe Biden to raise environmental commitments), the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, was pressured to reduce deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.
- He then pledged to stop illegal deforestation in Brazil by 2030.
- If between 2021 and the end of 2026, the total illegal deforestation in any year is reduced by at least 50% in comparison to the levels that were identified in 2020, this market will resolve to “yes”.
- This market will be resolved based on the data published by MAPBIOMAS' Relatório Anual do Desmatamento no Brasil.
