Aevo is a decentralized derivatives exchange that runs on its own Ethereum rollup. It lists options, perpetual futures, pre-launch futures and structured strategies, and it lets a trader hold all of them inside one margin account instead of splitting collateral across separate venues.
The distinguishing design choice is hybrid: orders are matched off-chain on a conventional order book so quoting and cancellation feel like a centralized exchange, while balances, positions and settlement live in smart contracts on the Aevo Layer 2. AEVO is the network's governance and staking token, an ERC-20 issued on Ethereum at 0xB528edBef013aff855ac3c50b381f253aF13b997, which reports 18 decimals and a total supply of 1,000,000,000 tokens on-chain. That contract is the asset this page describes.
Official sources:
Aevo grew out of Ribbon Finance, a structured-products protocol co-founded by Julian Koh and Ken Chan that went live on Ethereum in early 2021 with DeFi Option Vaults, automated strategies that sold options on a schedule to generate yield.
The same team later built Aevo as a full order-book derivatives exchange. Rather than run two brands and two tokens, RBN holders approved governance proposal RGP-33 to merge Ribbon into Aevo and convert RBN into AEVO at a 1:1 ratio. That conversion is still offered through the exchange with no stated deadline, and converted RBN is held in an immutable staking contract.
The restructuring did not stop at branding. In December 2025 the legacy Ribbon option vaults on Ethereum were exploited for roughly $2.7 million after an oracle upgrade allowed prices to be set for newly added assets. Aevo's Layer 2 exchange was not affected, but the team halted and decommissioned all remaining Ribbon vaults and opened a claim window for depositors. Governance later passed an "Aevonomics" framework that rebuilt staking rewards, trading rewards, the buyback-and-burn system and the DAO committee structure. Treat the Ribbon vault era as closed and the Layer 2 exchange as the live product.
Aevo is usually explained through three layers:
A custom OP Stack rollup Aevo runs on the Aevo Rollup, an EVM optimistic rollup. Conduit operates the sequencer and posts transaction batches to Ethereum mainnet on roughly an hourly cadence, with a two-hour dispute period, so withdrawals typically confirm in a few hours rather than the seven days common on general-purpose optimistic rollups. Deposits arrive through the Optimism Standard Bridge.
Off-chain order book and risk engine Maker and taker orders are posted and matched off-chain. Before an order reaches the book it passes a risk engine that checks whether the account satisfies its margin requirement under either Standard Margin or Portfolio Margin. Only matched trades are pushed to the on-chain contracts.
On-chain settlement Funds and positions stay inside Aevo's smart contracts at all times. Option settlement, funding payments and premium transfers all move through those contracts. Ether is the gas token on the rollup; Aevo covers gas for trading itself, while users pay gas for deposits and withdrawals.

The buyback-and-burn system scales with monthly exchange volume across five tiers. More than 60% of every monthly buyback is burned immediately, and the remainder goes to DAO treasury reserves split evenly between staking and trading rewards. AEVO has a fixed 1,000,000,000 token supply with no scheduled inflation, so burns make the asset structurally deflationary over time. The original distribution schedule inherited from the RBN era finished at the start of 2025.

Points worth weighing:
Aevo is one of the few decentralized venues where crypto options have real depth alongside perpetuals, and a working example of an exchange running its own settlement layer instead of renting one. Its history is also a useful case study in DeFi consolidation: two brands and two tokens folded into one, with a legacy product line formally retired after a security failure rather than quietly left running.
AEVO trades on centralized exchanges and on decentralized markets on Ethereum. Availability, trading pairs and derivative listings vary by jurisdiction and by venue.
AEVO is commonly available on Binance, OKX, KuCoin, Bybit and Gate, usually against USDT.
After purchase, AEVO can be held on an exchange account, which is custodial; in any Ethereum-compatible self-custody wallet, since the token is a standard ERC-20; in a hardware wallet paired with compatible wallet software; or staked on the Aevo exchange, where tokens lock for the chosen duration. Confirm the network and the exact contract address before any deposit or withdrawal, because token tickers are reused across unrelated projects.
