Humanity Protocol is an identity network built around a Proof of Humanity mechanism, which establishes that an account belongs to a distinct living person without storing the biometric data behind it. Its documentation calls it an open identity layer for Web3, combining palm recognition, verifiable credentials and zero knowledge proofs so a claim can be checked without the evidence being disclosed. Verified users receive a Human ID, and H pays verification fees and covers staking and governance.

Humanity Protocol is led by Terence Kwok, consistently identified as founder and chief executive across published interviews and industry coverage. Press reporting describes a seed round led by Kingsway Capital, though the official documentation publishes no team or cap table. A testnet opened in late 2024, palm scanning rolled out during 2025, and the token generation event took place in June 2025. Verification starts with the Human Recognition Module. The documentation explains the choice of palm biometrics: iris scanning needs specialized hardware, facial recognition is less precise and vulnerable to deepfakes, while palm patterns are stable over a lifetime and require physical presence. The evidence itself does not circulate: Identity Validators issue credentials, and zkProofer nodes generate the proofs that let an application confirm one without seeing what backs it.
The documentation describes H as an ERC-20 token with a fixed supply of ten billion units, used for attestation and credential validation, for rewarding zkProofer nodes and Identity Validators, and for governance. A validator must lock at least 100,000 H to issue credentials, and holders can delegate to one. Each verification fee splits four ways: 25 percent to the issuing validator and its delegators, 25 percent to a general staking pool, 25 percent to zkProofers, and 25 percent to the Foundation treasury.
Palm biometrics captured from a normal phone camera lower the hardware barrier relative to systems requiring dedicated equipment. The protocol also does not stop at uniqueness: it is a credential layer, so an application can ask whether someone is over a certain age and receive a proof rather than a document.
Worldcoin is the largest proof of personhood effort and uses iris scanning through purpose built Orb hardware, a strong uniqueness guarantee that costs a physical enrollment step. Civic is an older identity network aimed at compliance gating, and Ontology built a decentralized identity chain with no biometric layer. Humanity sits between these, pursuing Worldcoin's guarantee while preserving smartphone level access.
Chain level security comes from staked validators whose bonds are slashable, and application privacy from zero knowledge proofs plus the described sharding of biometric data. That must be read alongside June 2026, when malware on a developer machine exposed seven private keys, including a hot wallet key and three owner keys for each of the Ethereum and BSC multisig Safes. Roughly 447 million H was stolen or minted. Humanity then deployed a new audited ERC-20 and distributed replacements one to one from a June 8 snapshot.
Distinguishing people from software is becoming a practical problem, and the usual answer, storing identity documents, creates liability for everyone who touches the data. Humanity is a serious attempt to invert that: verify the claim, keep nothing.
H trades on several centralized exchanges. Venues that supported the 2026 migration included Binance Alpha, MEXC, Bitget, KuCoin, Bybit and Gate, and H also trades on Ethereum decentralized exchanges. Verify that any address you use matches the contract published by the project.
H is an ERC-20 token, so any Ethereum compatible wallet can hold it, and a hardware wallet is safer for balances you do not trade. On Humanity Mainnet, H is the native gas asset, so moving between environments needs the right network configuration.
