TrueUSD is a fiat-collateralized stablecoin intended to hold a value of one US dollar per token, backed by dollar reserves held with third-party banking partners. Verified customers mint TUSD by wiring dollars to a banking partner and redeem by sending tokens to a unique redemption address, with no issuer fee. The project describes TUSD as the first US dollar stablecoin to publish daily reserve attestations from an independent accounting firm, and coverage is also published on-chain through Chainlink Proof of Reserve.
Official resources:
TUSD launched in March 2018 and was created by TrustToken, a San Francisco company co-founded by Rafael Cosman and Danny An that raised venture capital from investors including Andreessen Horowitz and later renamed itself Archblock. In December 2020 the TrueUSD business was acquired by Techteryx. In October 2022 the Commonwealth of Dominica granted TUSD status as an authorized digital currency there. The website and white paper refer only to the operator and to banking partners, so the current owner is not named in the project's materials.
TUSD is a plain transferable token, with no interest rate, staking mechanism or governance. The system that matters sits off-chain. A user completes identity verification, wires dollars to a banking partner, and TUSD is minted, generally within one business day. Redemption runs in reverse, subject to a minimum and compliance checks.
TUSD is a settlement and quote asset rather than a claim on a protocol. Traders use it as a dollar-denominated pair, holders use it to move value between venues without a bank rail, and DeFi users supply it to stablecoin pools. It carries no governance rights and pays no yield; income earned on reserves accrues to the operator.
The main differentiator is reporting cadence. Most large fiat-backed stablecoins publish monthly attestations, while TUSD publishes daily ones and pairs them with an on-chain Proof of Reserve feed. It is also unusual in having a native TRON deployment, which has made it a common dollar rail in TRON-based DeFi.
USDC is issued by a company that is publicly listed in the United States and licensed as an e-money institution in the European Union, while USDP and GUSD are issued under New York trust charters. TUSD does not sit inside an equivalent regulatory perimeter, and its own site does not identify the operating entity.
Common uses are holding a dollar balance on an exchange between trades, moving dollars between venues and across chains, providing liquidity in stablecoin pools, and using TUSD as collateral in lending markets.
On-chain, TUSD is a standard token contract with public source code and verified deployments. The more important surface is off-chain: the assurance that circulation is covered comes from third-party attestation and the Chainlink feed rather than from cryptography, so holders depend on the conduct of banks and the operator.
TUSD has a documented history of reserve problems. In September 2024 the SEC announced settled charges against TrueCoin LLC and TrustToken Inc. over the fraudulent and unregistered offer and sale of investment contracts involving TUSD. The SEC alleged that, while the companies represented TUSD as fully backed by dollars, a substantial portion of the backing assets had been placed in a speculative offshore fund. They settled without admitting or denying the findings and paid civil penalties. Court filings reported in 2025 separately described a dispute in which Techteryx alleged that hundreds of millions of dollars of reserves placed with a Hong Kong fiduciary had become trapped in illiquid investments; those allegations were contested in litigation. The white paper itself warns that reserves are exposed to the failure of banking partners.
TUSD is one of the longest-running dollar stablecoins and has been a significant quote asset on major exchanges and a common dollar rail on TRON. It is also a useful case study: reporting frequency alone does not settle the question of safety, and issuer conduct matters as much as the reports.
TUSD trades on centralized exchanges including Binance, HTX, KuCoin, Bybit, Gate, Bitget, MEXC and Poloniex, usually against USDT. On-chain it is available through Curve and Uniswap on Ethereum, PancakeSwap on BNB Smart Chain, and SunSwap on TRON.
Because TUSD exists on several chains, first confirm which version you hold. Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain balances work in any wallet supporting those networks, while TRON balances need a TRON-compatible wallet. Hardware wallets suit larger amounts, and bridged versions are not the native contract.
