Space and Time is a blockchain built to make data verifiable for smart contracts. Its documentation describes SXT Chain as "an open-source, decentralized Layer 1 blockchain designed to secure financial data onchain." The problem it targets is straightforward: a smart contract can only trust what it can verify, and most useful data, including historical onchain data and anything from the outside world, is too large or too expensive to recompute inside a contract.

Provers compute and prove Prover nodes watch for query requests coming from smart contracts. When one arrives, the prover executes the SQL logic off-chain against the committed data, generates a zero-knowledge proof that the execution was correct, and returns the result on chain through a callback to the requesting contract.
The practical effect is that a contract can ask a real analytical question, such as an aggregate over historical transfers or a join across several datasets, and receive an answer it can verify cryptographically instead of trusting a reporting party.
Query access from contracts runs through QueryRouter contracts deployed on Ethereum and Base, with a relayer contract handling payment and routing. Space and Time also indexes data from several chains, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, ZKsync, Polygon, Sui and Avalanche, so contracts can query cross-chain history without building their own indexing stack.

The two are complementary rather than substitutes, and Space and Time is frequently used alongside oracle infrastructure.
Compared with an indexing protocol such as The Graph, the difference is verifiability. Both make blockchain data queryable, but Space and Time returns a cryptographic proof that a smart contract can check, whereas a conventional indexer returns data that an application has to trust.
Compared with general-purpose zero-knowledge coprocessors, Space and Time is domain-specific. It gives up generality in exchange for proving speed and low verification cost on a workload, analytical SQL, that covers a large share of what applications actually need.
Security has three layers. Consensus security comes from the validator set and its BFT agreement on table commitments, backed by staked SXT and slashing for misbehavior or downtime. Data integrity comes from the commitment scheme itself: because commitments are signed before data can be queried, tampering after the fact is detectable. Computational integrity comes from the zero-knowledge proofs, which mean a dishonest prover cannot return a wrong answer that verifies.
The weakest points are the usual ones for a young network: validator concentration, the correctness of the proving implementation, and the trust assumptions of the indexers that supply data in the first place.
If tokenized assets, stablecoins and institutional markets keep growing on public chains, the amount of data those systems must reference will grow faster than what a smart contract can process directly. Verifiable off-chain computation is the standard answer, and constraining it to SQL is a pragmatic bet: it targets the queries people actually write and keeps verification cheap enough to use in production. Space and Time is one of the more concrete attempts to make that idea deployable rather than theoretical.
