Fidelity Digital Dollar is a US dollar stablecoin issued by Fidelity Digital Assets, National Association, a national trust bank chartered by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in 2025 and owned by Fidelity Investments. On-chain it is a standard ERC-20 contract, and Fidelity retains the ability to freeze or restrict addresses.
FIDD is a centralized liability, and holders depend on the issuer's solvency. Fidelity states plainly that FIDD is not FDIC insured and carries no government guarantee, and that digital assets are speculative and can become illiquid. An address can be blocked, and par redemption requires an eligible account, so an open-market buyer depends on secondary pricing.
FIDD is a case of a major traditional asset manager issuing its own dollar token through a bank subsidiary instead of partnering with an existing crypto issuer. That structure tests whether a stablecoin distributed through a brokerage relationship can compete on institutional terms.
