Gensyn describes itself as the network for machine intelligence: an open infrastructure layer supplying the compute, verification, communication and coordination that AI systems need in order to run without a central operator. The AI token is the network's native asset, used for staking against machine learning work, paying for services, and eventually governance.
The most useful thing to know up front is what has actually shipped. Gensyn's chain is live, and so is Delphi, its first application with real economic activity. The general-purpose decentralized model training network the project was originally designed around is not yet the live commercial product, and several early testnet programs have been paused. Anyone reading older material about Gensyn should check that distinction carefully.

Gensyn was founded in 2020 in the United Kingdom by Ben Fielding and Harry Grieve. In June 2023 the company raised a 43 million dollar Series A led by a16z crypto, with participation from investors including CoinFund, Protocol Labs, Canonical Crypto and Eden Block.
The technical direction changed substantially along the way, and the project says so openly. The original 2022 litepaper carries an explicit notice that it is out of date. Among the changes it lists: the planned Substrate-based Layer 1 was replaced with a custom Ethereum rollup, Rust was dropped from the stack, and a cryptographic proof system and a reproducible machine learning runtime were introduced.
The Gensyn mainnet chain was created on September 24, 2025. A public testnet had been created on March 13, 2025. The network opened to broader use in April 2026, alongside the launch of Delphi on mainnet and the initial distribution of the AI token in the same month.

Reproducible execution The Reproducible Execution Environment, or REE, packages model export, compilation, inference and output decoding into a container pipeline that produces bitwise-identical results on different hardware. It is built on RepOp kernels, operators designed to give identical outputs across hardware and parallelism configurations. Without reproducibility, nothing downstream can be verified.
Trustless verification Once execution is reproducible, disagreements between participants can be detected and resolved without a trusted referee. This layer draws on the project's Verde research into machine learning verification over untrusted nodes, and on Judge, a cryptographically verifiable AI evaluator.
Peer-to-peer communication The Agent eXchange Layer, or AXL, is an encrypted decentralized transport that lets agents, machine learning pipelines and applications exchange data directly with no central server. It is application-agnostic and supports the Model Context Protocol and agent-to-agent messaging.
On-chain coordination A custom blockchain handles identity, incentives and payments. It is an OP Stack rollup with chain ID 685689 that settles to Ethereum mainnet, uses Ethereum for data availability, and uses ETH as its gas token. A live query against the public RPC returns that chain ID.
Several earlier testnet products, including RL Swarm, BlockAssist and CodeAssist, are documented as paused and no longer actively maintained.
Gensyn Foundation documentation gives the AI token a total supply of 10,000,000,000 and describes it as an ERC-20 on the Gensyn Layer 2, treated as canonical, with mirrored deployments on Ethereum mainnet and Base. Initial distribution took place in April 2026. Documented utility:
Value accrual runs through the AI BuyBack Vault. On-chain revenue, currently trading fees denominated in USDC from products such as Delphi, accumulates in the vault. Any address can trigger a buyback permissionlessly. The vault swaps the revenue into AI tokens on Uniswap, validating the price against a 30-minute time-weighted average, then splits the result: 70 percent is burned by reducing total supply directly, 29 percent returns to the community treasury, and 1 percent is paid to whoever triggered the call. Guardrails include per-epoch volume limits, slippage caps, an allowlist of approved swap paths and an emergency pause.
Most decentralized AI projects either rent out raw GPU capacity or run inference behind an API. Gensyn's distinguishing bet is verification. The reproducibility work exists specifically so that a third party can independently confirm that a computation was performed correctly, which is the hard problem in paying strangers for machine learning work. The bitwise-deterministic operator research is unusual in that it is published, peer-reviewable and implemented rather than described only in marketing terms. The project is also unusually direct about staging, labeling paused products as paused and the old litepaper as legacy.
The chain inherits its settlement and data availability guarantees from Ethereum mainnet. Application-level correctness is intended to rest on reproducible execution plus verification with economic penalties, rather than on replicating expensive computation on-chain, which the project's own analysis shows is unworkable for deep learning. The Foundation also publishes a network security page covering custody, audits, infrastructure partners and monitoring, and warns readers to verify contract addresses against its official network information page.
If machine learning work is going to be bought and sold between parties who do not trust each other, someone has to solve verification. Gensyn is one of the few teams treating that as the central problem rather than a footnote, and it has published its approach in reviewable form.
The AI token trades on centralized exchanges and on decentralized venues. Because it exists on the Gensyn network, Ethereum mainnet and Base, buyers should confirm which deployment an exchange uses before withdrawing.
