What Is WEMIX (WEMIX)?

WEMIX is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain for games and Web3 services, run in connection with the South Korean game publisher Wemade. WEMIX3.0 uses Stake-based Proof of Authority with 40 Node Council Partners, known as WONDERs, and the documentation cites maximum throughput of 4,000 transactions per second. WEMIX is the native gas and staking asset and the settlement currency across the ecosystem.

Who Founded WEMIX? (History)

WEMIX comes out of Wemade, a KOSDAQ-listed Korean game developer known for the MIR franchise, led by chief executive Henry Chang. The blockchain arm operates through WEMIX PTE. LTD., and WEMIX3.0 launched in 2022 after earlier WEMIX generations. Two setbacks followed at home: in late 2022 discrepancies in disclosed circulating figures led to removal from major Korean exchanges, and in February 2025 an attacker stole roughly 8.65 million WEMIX through compromised monitoring-system keys, with delayed disclosure contributing to a second delisting.

How WEMIX Works

Rather than an open validator set, block production is handled by a fixed council of 40 Node Council Partners, each staking a substantial amount of WEMIX to hold a seat, and the docs describe a Permanent Minting Reward of 0.5 WEMIX per block. The chain is forked from Ethereum, so standard Solidity tooling works with minimal changes, and mainnet uses chain ID 1111. Non-operators delegate through WEMIX STAKE, with withdrawals roughly seven days after an unstake request.

WEMIX Token Utility

WEMIX is the gas token of WEMIX3.0 and the staking asset for both Node Council Partners and delegators. It is the base currency inside WEMIX PLAY and WEMIX.FI, where in-game tokens and NFTs trade against WEMIX or WEMIX$, and it feeds DAO governance. New supply comes from the per-block minting reward.

What Makes WEMIX Unique?

WEMIX is run by an established, publicly listed game company rather than a crypto-native startup, which gave it real games with real players. The ecosystem is also unusually vertically integrated, with chain, game platform, DeFi layer and stablecoin built by one organization.

How WEMIX Differs from Similar Projects

Immutable supplies chain infrastructure to third-party studios, and Ronin grew out of one publisher's hit game. Oasys targets Japanese publishers with a hub-and-verse architecture, and BORA is another Korean gaming token. WEMIX sits closest to those two, but goes further by operating its own DeFi and stablecoin stack. Its distinguishing risk is its regulatory history in Korea.

How WEMIX Is Secured

Consensus security comes from the staked positions of the 40 Node Council Partners. That permissioned model is fast but concentrates trust in known operators, and operational security has been the more important variable. In July 2026 an incident compromised ownership of a contract tied to WEMIX$, allowing roughly 5.23 million WEMIX$ to be minted without authorization. WEMIX suspended bridges, affected pools, the conversion module and the PNIX exchange, published an official notice dated July 26, 2026, and later restored services.

Risks and Considerations

WEMIX has been removed from major Korean exchanges twice, in 2022 and 2025, and Korea remains its most important market. It has suffered at least two significant security incidents in under 18 months, both involving compromised keys or contract ownership, and the 40-node council concentrates block production. Activity is tied to the commercial performance of games, and a WEMIX$ failure would propagate into the economies built on it.

Why WEMIX Matters

WEMIX is the clearest test of whether a traditional game publisher can operate a public blockchain end to end. It has real titles, real users and a full stack most gaming chains only describe on a roadmap, and it equally tests what happens when that model meets disclosure obligations and security failures.

Where Can You Buy WEMIX (WEMIX)?

WEMIX trades on global centralized exchanges, and Kraken added it in July 2026. It is not on Korean won markets after the 2025 delisting, and Wemade has said a domestic return will take time. On-chain it can be swapped through WEMIX.FI. Given the network's history of pausing bridges during incidents, confirm those services are running normally before moving funds.

Storage Options After Purchase

WEMIX is the native asset of an EVM chain, so it can be held in the official WEMIX Wallet or in MetaMask once the network is added using chain ID 1111 and the official RPC. Ledger or Trezor can be paired with an EVM interface for longer-term storage. If you stake, use the official WEMIX STAKE interface and note the roughly seven-day unstaking delay.
