Stable is a Layer 1 blockchain built for stablecoin payments, where USDT0, the canonical on-chain representation of Tether's USDT, is the native gas token rather than a separate volatile asset. The chain is fully EVM compatible, and its documentation targets sub-second blocks, single-slot finality, and sub-cent fees. STABLE is a separate token from the gas asset: it is the governance and staking token used to elect validators and vote on upgrades. Mainnet and the token launched on December 8, 2025.
Official resources:
Stable raised a $28 million seed round led by Bitfinex and Hack VC, with Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino and Nathan Macauley named as advisors. Brian Mehler is identified as CEO in the mainnet launch announcement, which also introduced the Stable Foundation to oversee grants and governance. Beyond the CEO and those advisors, the founding team is not individually identified in official documentation.
Consensus runs on StableBFT, described as a customized proof-of-stake protocol built on CometBFT. It gives deterministic finality, meaning blocks are final on inclusion with no reorganization window, and tolerates up to one third of validators failing or acting maliciously.
The fee model is the unusual part. USDT0 is both the native gas token and an ERC-20 balance, so there is no wrapping and no second asset to top up. A Gas Waiver lets governance-approved addresses submit wrapper transactions at a gas price of zero, which is how gasless transfers reach users.
STABLE has a fixed supply of 100,000,000,000 tokens, allocated 40% to ecosystem and community, 25% to the team, 25% to investors and advisors, and 10% to a genesis distribution. Team and investor allocations sit behind a cliff followed by multi-year linear vesting.
The token elects validators, votes on upgrades, and serves as the credential for gas fee distributions. Fees accumulate in USDT0 in a contract-managed treasury, and validators may choose to pass them to delegators. That nuance matters: the share is a validator-level choice, not an automatic payout.
The defining decision is denominating gas in the stablecoin users already hold. On most chains, sending USDT still requires a balance of a separate volatile asset. Stable splits the roles instead: USDT0 is both money and fuel, STABLE is security and governance.
Tron carries very large USDT volume, but fees there are paid in TRX, not in the stablecoin itself. Plasma is the closest competitor in intent, since it is also a stablecoin-oriented chain offering zero-fee USDT transfers, though the two differ in consensus design and in how their native tokens relate to fees. Stellar and Celo target payments but predate the stablecoin-first wave.
Cross-border remittances and payouts where fee predictability matters. Merchant settlement and invoicing, where a payer should not need a second token. Payroll and treasury operations for firms already holding stablecoins. Subscriptions, metered API billing, and agent payments.
Security comes from delegated proof-of-stake: holders delegate STABLE to validators, who finalize blocks under StableBFT, with misbehavior bounded by the unbonding period and the fault tolerance threshold. Because USDT0 is an omnichain representation of USDT rather than natively issued, balance safety also depends on the bridging infrastructure.
Stable launched in December 2025, so it has a short operating record and little history under stress. Its value proposition is tightly coupled to USDT specifically, concentrating issuer and regulatory risk in one stablecoin, and USDT0 layers bridge risk on top of consensus risk. Gas Waiver and Guaranteed Blockspace are governance-gated, so the fee experience depends on who governance approves. Team and investor allocations account for half the supply, and unlocks shift both voting power and float.
Stablecoins are one of the few crypto products with measurable real-world usage, and most of it runs on chains never designed for it. Stable tests whether a purpose-built settlement layer, with fees denominated in the payment asset, beats general-purpose chains adapted after the fact.
STABLE trades on centralized exchanges, with on-chain liquidity on decentralized venues where it has contract deployments. Listings and regional availability change, so check the markets section on this page. When withdrawing, confirm the network, since sending to the wrong chain can cause permanent loss.
STABLE can be held in any wallet supporting the network you hold it on, including EVM wallets for the BNB Chain and HyperEVM contracts. Delegators need a wallet that can reach the staking module on Stable Mainnet, and hardware wallets remain stronger for long-term holdings.
