Quant is an enterprise software company building interoperability and programmable money infrastructure for banks, corporates and public institutions. Its core product is Overledger, an API gateway that lets one application read from and write to many distributed ledgers without integrating each chain separately. Quant is not itself a blockchain, and QNT is not a gas token: it is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum that Quant describes as a licence key granting access to the Overledger platform.
Official resources:
Quant Network was founded by Gilbert Verdian, who initiated the work that became the ISO/TC 307 blockchain standards committee. A 2018 token sale was followed by a burn that September, fixing maximum supply at roughly 14.6 million QNT. The UK registered company has targeted institutional customers rather than retail users from the start.
Overledger sits above ledgers rather than between them. Rather than a bridge holding assets, it exposes a normalised API so one request can be routed to Bitcoin, an EVM chain, XRP Ledger or a permissioned enterprise ledger, handling the differences in transaction format, signing and confirmation. Newer products extend this into programmability: Quant Flow automates payments and treasury across bank accounts and stablecoins, and PayScript is a rules language for how money moves. Quant has also announced Overledger Fusion, a multi-ledger rollup for institutional settlement, with staking intended to follow.
QNT buys licences and access to Overledger. Enterprises and gateway operators pay platform, developer and consumption fees in QNT, and licences are time bound, with tokens locked in a contract for the subscription period and released on expiry. QNT pays no gas on any public chain and represents no equity in the company.
Quant did not build a chain. Overledger is deliberately a software layer, so the company never had to bootstrap validators, security or liquidity, and can add a ledger without a consensus change. The trade-off is that QNT's relevance depends on licence revenue rather than on-chain activity, and its customers are unusual for crypto: regulated banks, market infrastructure operators and central banks.
Chainlink, Wormhole and Axelar are message passing networks with their own oracle or validator sets, and their tokens secure or pay for that network. Polkadot and Cosmos define shared standards that chains must join. Quant instead ships integration software the customer runs and prices access with a token licence, making QNT closer to a software entitlement than a fee token.
QNT is an ERC-20 token, so its transfer security is Ethereum's proof of stake consensus plus the contract code. Overledger's model is that of enterprise software: the gateway does not custody assets by default, clients sign their own transactions, and deployments depend on the operator's key management. Being proprietary, its internals are not open to public review.
Enterprise contracts are rarely disclosed, so adoption cannot be verified from on-chain data. The link between platform usage and QNT demand rests on licensing design the company can change, and Overledger being closed source limits independent verification. Fusion and staking are newer and should be judged against what has shipped. Central bank projects also move slowly and can be cancelled.
Tokenised finance now assumes many ledgers will coexist and that regulated institutions will not migrate onto one public chain. Quant is among the longer running attempts to sell that assumption as software rather than as a protocol, giving it visibility in a segment most crypto projects cannot reach.
QNT trades on many centralised exchanges and, as an ERC-20 token, on Ethereum decentralised exchanges. Confirm the contract address on a block explorer before buying, since tokens with similar names exist, and prefer venues that allow withdrawal to self custody.
Any Ethereum compatible wallet can hold QNT. Hardware wallets such as Ledger or Trezor suit long term holdings, while MetaMask or Rabby are convenient for smaller balances. Leaving tokens on an exchange means relying on that venue's solvency.
