Global Dollar (USDG) is a fiat-backed stablecoin pegged one-to-one to the US dollar, issued by Paxos Digital Singapore Pte. Ltd., a Major Payment Institution supervised by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Each token is redeemable from Paxos for one US dollar, and reserves sit in segregated accounts in cash and cash-equivalent instruments with monthly reports and independent attestations. USDG is the settlement asset of the Global Dollar Network, a consortium in which reserve economics are shared with the firms that distribute the token.
Official resources:
USDG was created by Paxos, the regulated blockchain infrastructure company founded in 2012 by Charles Cascarilla and Rich Teo, which also issues Pax Dollar, PayPal USD and Pax Gold. Paxos announced USDG and the Global Dollar Network in November 2024, launching from Singapore with partner exchanges and fintechs. USDG later launched in the European Union through Paxos Issuance Europe under Finnish supervision. Paxos itself converted its New York state trust charter to a national trust charter supervised by the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in December 2025.
The mechanics match other regulated fiat-backed stablecoins. An approved customer sends dollars to Paxos, Paxos mints USDG on the requested blockchain, and redemption reverses the process and burns the tokens. Reserves are segregated rather than commingled, and Paxos does not run a fractional reserve. The distinguishing layer is commercial: under the Global Dollar Network model, most reserve income passes back to the partners that hold and circulate USDG, in proportion to the balances they bring.
USDG is a payment and settlement instrument, not a governance or yield token. It moves dollar value between exchanges and wallets, and prices and settles trades and payments. USDG itself pays no interest. Any reward a user sees comes from a distribution partner sharing its network economics, not from the token.
The reserve economics are the differentiator. Rather than the issuer keeping the yield, the network distributes most of it to the platforms that drive adoption. That gives exchanges and wallets a direct financial reason to promote USDG over rivals, unusual in a market where incumbents rely on liquidity network effects.
USDT and USDC are fiat-backed tokens that keep reserve income with the issuer, with far deeper liquidity and longer track records. USDG's licensing base is Singapore-first with a separate EU issuing entity. Against collateral-backed tokens such as USDS or DAI, it offers a direct legal redemption claim on a regulated issuer, but no on-chain transparency into the assets and no decentralized governance.
Security has two layers. Legally, the reserve is segregated, the issuer is prudentially supervised in Singapore, and independent accountants attest monthly. Technically, USDG is a standard open source token contract on each chain, with the Ethereum deployment using an upgradeable proxy. As with other regulated stablecoins, the issuer can freeze addresses in response to legal orders.
Stablecoin competition has largely been fought on trust and liquidity. USDG attacks it on economics, turning reserve yield into an incentive for distributors rather than issuer profit.
USDG is available on centralized exchanges connected to the Global Dollar Network, and on decentralized exchanges on the chains where it is deployed. Approved institutional customers can mint and redeem directly with Paxos at par.
USDG is a standard token on each network, so an EVM wallet covers the Ethereum, Arbitrum, Ink and X Layer deployments, and a Solana wallet handles the SPL version. Add the token by its verified contract address for that chain. USDG on one chain is not spendable on another without a supported bridge.
